reading Real Fiction has reminded me how absurdly short the average ao3 paragraph length is

i guess, in Real Fiction, the long paragraphs are usually location descriptions and inner monologue, which is really important for establishing the setting, the character obviously, and like usually is plot-relevant also (we need to know that the church is all wood so it’s not surprising wjen it burns down). And none of that rlly matters in ao3-type fic there’s not a lot of heavy plots we know the characters we know the settings

even in aus where the setting isn’t already established by the base work it usually isn’t like… relevant. Nobody is writing hualian modern au bc they want to paint a portrait of a rural town’s decline in modernity through the eyes of it’s disgraced former mayor they are writing about huacheng and xuelian. The au is just to provide some new context for the characters
