The purple magical girl with the literal gun is, of course, a reference to Homura Akemi🔫 I gave Jopson a more period-accurate rifle, I love the idea of her using this big clunky gun but I’m not that good at drawing weapons so I don’t think you can really tell haha.

Pose reference + Gloves inspiration: A promotional pic of Lee Remick as Annie Oakley for the musical Annie Get Your Gun! She also has these exaggerated gloves, which became the magical girl version of the steward’s white gloves.

The collar of the dress is modeled on a real one from Shushu/Tong, as worn by Irene of Red Velvet in a photoshoot for the Chill Kill album. I was thinking of the contrast of white collar/black garment, and how those signal some kind of discipline and subservience in Western clothing (maids, priests, etc.) The off-shoulder design would probably not be ideal for shooting the rifle, though, but anything is possible through magic.

The skirt, however, is very dramatic, and I used Chisato Moritaka’s 90s stage outfits as reference. She had these really poofy, almost cosplay-ish skirts that showed off her legs! Iconic
