People need to acknowledge that the thing that made Aarmau compelling was that Aphmau and Aaron were very clearly projecting onto eachother the entire time they were seeing eachother. There is absolutely no way Aaron wasn’t imagining his dead wife when he saw Aph, and there is no way Aph wasn’t imagining her stoic, and mysterios head guard in place of this stoic and mysterious stranger.

My headcanon for this is that the patriarchy was commonplace during the era of the kings, and once Irene took over overtly patriarchal ideas like male succession, and male only leaders were abolished and made accessible to women, but patriarchal ideas survived through concepts like courtly love, the chivalric code (the oath of the knights), and absolute primogeniture

I know I rag on Jess a lot about the writing of MCD, but it genuinely impresses me that she managed to get down such vital medieval tropes while relying on more modern pieces of media for inspo like fairy tail and final fantasy. MCD genuinely has one of the best critiques of courtly love I’ve ever seen in media EVER. AND IT WAS DONE ALMOST ENTIRELY BY ACCIDENT.

Some personal Shadow Knight headcanons. Vylad and Zenix were a pain in the ass to draw ima be so real.

I know in the show its explained that once a Shadow Knight gains their immortality their eyes will be permanently red but literally the only SK who conforms to this lore in Vincent so I'm throwing that out of the window and just say that once a SK gains their immortality by killing their lord or slaugthering thousands, they have the privilage to look human again.
