listen i don't like the pregnancy storyline in mermaid tales either but people have to stop saying this is the cocomau-ificaton (granted that term is really funny) of aphmau RPs. she was literally pregnant in season 2 of diaries a DECADE ago.
a part of aphmau's character, in any universe, is that she's a mother/maternal figure (MCD, MMW/VP, even MySt during Her Wish); a lot of the women in diaries are mothers. that doesn't mean that's all they are! and there are plenty of women in the series that don't have children!
jess herself is a mother, so it's obviously going to feature in her storytelling? especially with series that are so close to her heart.
i just hate the way pregnancy gets demonised in the fandom sometimes. i don't like that MT aphmau is having a baby, i don't think it fits her character or the arc she seemed to be having, but putting the choice down to a reflection of her daily content aimed at kids feels very weird idk
they need to start killing people in mermaid tales. stone would have been dead by now if i was in charge of that ship. the only thing doing any damage is alcohol to laurance's liver

there's a big part of me that finds it hard to be critical of anything jess does/puts out. i consider myself someone who recognises that "famous" people are people and that we'll never know them personally, but when it comes to jess i've always had a lack of discernment. it probably comes from having watched her from the earlier days of her channel and knowing about some of the harrassment she went through during diaries.
the point of me acknowleding this, i guess, is to remind myself that nobody is perfect. with the recent issues about AI usage and white-washing (not necessarily just recent :/), my instant reaction was to say: that wasn't jess, the company as a whole is at fault, she wouldn't do that. and while the blame can't just be put on one person (or two if we're counting jesson), the founders of said company making the issues also have to be held accountable.
since we don't know enough about the AI usage, i don't really want to make any comments on that, but i do want to express my disappointment about the white-washing of characters. it's been an issue, afaik, for years, and it seems to just keep happening? in the past few months alone there have been two separate incidents (regarding the character pillows) of this -- the company will always backtrack and change the skintone to the proper one once enough people complain, but it begs the question: why are these mistakes being made in the first place? aphmau, the channel, has always been pretty inclusive compared to the rest of the minecraft youtube community, but the company keeps falling short on this, and it's really confusing??
there has been a problem with the quality control of merch in general anyway, so i suppose it shouldn't shock anyone too much
something else i want to add: it's okay to admit you don't enjoy certain creative decisions. mermaid tales s2 has felt super lackluster to me compared to any other RP they've put out (coming from someone who watched mystreet as an adult, i cared more about and enjoyed it than MT S2) (yes including a royal tale), and i spent more time raging at alternates s2 than anything else XD. i've always been hesitant to express a negative opinion about anything aphmau-related because of that attachment i've had for years, but we should all start learning together how to be critical of things while also being able to enjoy them (because only complaining about the things you consume is just as bad as not being able to say anything bad about it at all!!).
Definitely agree,,, I guess its parasocial of me but other than being aware of their previous harassment (diaries, I think stuff w Mystreet when Jason got really bitchy), when the channel was in I guess it’s prime was rough time for me so jesson became sort of comfort figures to me. It’s prob a reason I just don’t like intense bashing without apparent purpose/desire for real change of the channel. The whitewashing stuff will forever perplex me. They whitewash the main, MEXICAN, woman!!! Does she make these decisions? Why hire people who can’t respect and adapt Your skin tone? Whitewashing characters who aren’t even people of color they’re just tan has also been so crazy. Their own company can’t seem to color-pick.
Also agree on being able to critique but still enjoy, that’s one of the biggest issues I’ve had with the Aph fandom. It becomes nearly offensive to always hear “ew I can’t believe I like this shitty problematic Minecraft roleplay from 2017 lol”
