A thundering applause concluded the show, and I glided through the stage, dodging all invitations and charming a couple of coins into my pocket, all the while unable to tear my eyes away from the little flicker of icy light a broken projector emitted.
Stand, bow, smile, jest, until finally I slipped off my silvery costume and led a soft pitter-patter into my faraway residence, whereupon the meager decorations seemed all too much, but then all too little; too little to be of any comfort after such a dazzling show I had worked just now.
Once again I glided throughout a stage, this time heavy and limp as my limbs were weighed down by the intimacy that had taken root in my heart. Dreadfully embarassed to acknowledge this, I sat and peered at my kitchen, chair trembling underneath my unorthodox methods of resting and thinking; the blade I juggled shined and the wooden leg I kicked groaned underneath the force.
I had not turned on the light yet. It was for the better, because the blue-green brightness bounced around my salon, giving a rather dramatic atmosphere I found fitting. My dearest companion's eyes even seemed to take form in those dark flowers there, the thorns forming a grimacing mouth, ugly and unlike the demure smiles and frowns Fyodor was so inclined to giving out. No matter.
I kept repeating that it was no matter, that it is no matter, because if there is one restraint I have avoided is that of affection, and its mottled face will not come to haunt me now, where my dreary figure hunches over a sturdy table set for one, mourning what I never had but cherished deeply. I had still not turned on the lights.
But what was coming through the blinds was enough to keep the little turqoise shadows flickering..... flickering..... fluttering..... --and then the light faded out, and I was left alone, naked in my vulnerability, stripped of my character and left without comfort all through the same hand that had once promised venomous understanding and grace.
