Tropical Duet: A Study in Chrome Yellow and Deep Azure

An exploration of raw texture and natural symmetry.

In this oil pastel piece, I wanted to capture the rhythmic, vibrant energy of marine life through a bold contrast of complementary tones.

Two yellow butterflyfish are suspended in a deep, heavily worked azure environment. By building up dense, expressive layers of pastel on paper, the visible strokes mimic the constant, fluid motion of deep ocean currents.

The dark vertical stripes and luminous highlights around their forms add structure to the fluid background, turning a brief underwater encounter into a vivid, tactile emotional landscape.
