Hi hi!! This is my first time even doing something like this. But your story has captured my attention and i am deeply in love with the idea you have for the game and the character Turquoise himself! ;]
I do have some questions, maybe regards to you more than him ehe.
1. How long did it take you to make the game?
2. What app(s) did you use to create such beautiful illustrations for the game? (seriously i adore your artstyle)
3. What's the thing you like most about when designing Turquoise? Maybe his appearance, his style, his personality?
And probably a little side note, in the game it says that Turquoise actually is very fragile looking...does that mean we MC can pick him up easily?? :00 (think about carrying Turquoise bridal style heh)
1. How long did it take you to make the game?
Good questionโthis gives me a chance to take a quick look back at the creation of "Beyond The Turquoise Stars"!
Iโd been wanting to create an original character (OC) for a long time, just to get away from fan art. So I finally took the plunge last year.
It took me several weeks to create himโboth his design and the basics of his personalityโand he was finally born in June 2025! Iโve always wanted to create a white-haired Yandere with an angelic appearance...
As for his personality, it continues to evolve as I write the gameโs script. But I already had a clear idea from the start of how I wanted to build the character of Tq.
At the very beginning, I didnโt plan on making a visual novel. I wanted to create a series of illustrations that would tell a specific story through scattered clues, leading to a tragic ending. As a bonus, I wanted to write his diary entries to understand his background and how he ended up โthere.โ The story was generally the same as current Chapter 1, and it was supposed to end there... (but with a different ending)
However, at the same time, I had a friend who had created her own visual novel for a jam. I followed every step of her creation process, and when I played it, I was impressed! She had worked so hard, and it really showed. (Her gameโif youโre curious, give it a try! Thereโs a Yandere in it.) It inspired me a lot.
And then it got me thinking. Taking a step back, I realized that, in the end, visual novels combined exactly what I wanted to do: illustrations and a story. So I decided I was going to learn how to make a visual novel. I already had some basic coding knowledge, so I wasnโt too lost when it came to coding logic, but I still had to relearn a lot since my last classes were 10 years ago...
I wrote the story for Chapter 1 last summer. I think I finished it at the end of August 2025. Then, from September to March, I spent my time learning the coding software, then creating Tqโs sprites, looking for visual references, going out to take photos for the backgrounds, modeling his apartment in 3D for a more immersive experience, and reading a lot of philosophy books tooโฆ In short, it was a huge amount of research, creation, and stress! But in the end, I managed to release it in time for the Yandere Game Jam in March 2026.
To summarize: Turquoise character created in June 2025 (visuals/personality). Chapter 1 script completed in August 2025. Game structure (art, code) created in 6 months.
2. What apps did you use to draw?
Iโve always drawn in Photoshop, so the sprites and illustrations (CG) were created in that software.
However, I wanted to switch drawing software; I wanted to switch to Clip Studio Paint. So I forced myself to create the backgrounds in that software to learn it.
Now Iโve given up on PhotoshopโI only draw in Clip Studio Paint!
3. What's the thing you like the most about designing Turquoise?
Creating Turquoiseโs backstoryโthe things that make him who he is todayโis what I love most about this character.
I created Turquoise because I had things I needed to express, things I wanted to talk about. Some of his past experiences are similar to my own. However, please note that he is not a self-insert. Donโt put words in my mouth. Heโs just a way for me to convey certain messages. So I hope youโll enjoy discovering his past in future chapters! Heโs a character whoโs very close to my heart. So Iโm really happy when I see that so many of you like him. Itโs reassuring. (Weโll see if you change your minds later, maybe you will end up hating him...)
This game is about Turquoise, not "MC". Even though MC definitely played an important role in Turquoise's life.
4. Can we lift Turquoise up?
Well, if you're strong enough, why not?! He's not very heavy, but he's still a 174cm man.
