This isn’t so much original ideas, but organization of the information provided by the show.
Steve’s “Haunting of” series includes the following 10 titles (and what they’re likely about):
“The Haunting of Hill House” - The story of the Crain Family in the notoriously haunted Hill House in Massachusetts.
“The Haunting of Danvers” - Danvers State Hospital, a psychiatric hospital, in Massachusetts with your typical use of inhumane medical treatments: lobotomies, shock therapy, straitjackets...
“The Haunting of Fairfield Hills” - Psychiatric hospital in Newton, Connecticut. Of course, its treatments included hydrotherapy, shock therapy, and frontal lobotomies and it was eventually closed due to deinstitutionalization.
“The Haunting of Williamsburg” - On one of America’s oldest and most historical towns found in Virginia, it covers colonial ghost stories originating from the 18th century that are still experienced today.
“The Haunting of Queen Mary” - The RMS Queen Mary is a British ocean liner that took part in WWII. It is docked in Long Beach, California, and is a well known haunted attraction.
“The Haunting of Battery Point” - A charming lighthouse in California turned museum is still plagued by the supernatural.
“The Haunting of Ranchos Los Amigos” - Full title: Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center or the “Downey Insane Asylum.” Located in Downey, California, it was once a “poor farm” that took in the impoverished and mentally ill, eventually developing into a community. The supernatural presence is attributed to the numerous bodies buried there.
“The Haunting of Rockhaven Sanitarium” - Yet another location in California, it follows the story of a small, independent psychiatric hospital for mentally ill women whose founder wanted change after witnessing the abhorrent mistreatment of patients.
“The Haunting of Mendocino Hotel” - Historical hotel in California, associated with spookiness.
“The Haunting of Alcatraz” - Alcatraz Island, featuring a historical federal prison in beautiful San Francisco.
The first book of “The Haunting” series was “The Haunting of Hill House” which earned Steve his fame and success. I believe that “The Haunting of Alcatraz” is his most recent, given the book-signing scene with Nell! I believe the general order of his novels follow as Steve travels along the east coast from Massachusetts to Connecticut to Virginia. Once he moves to California with his wife, 6 years before the show’s timeline, he focuses entirely on California content.
NOTE: I did a little research on all of these locations but will need to look at them more in depth! I personally think I’d have liked to read his Danvers novel, haha.
oh god how many awkward and miserable ghost tours has steve gone on for research--
I just wanna know how Steve and his sisters manage the new media coverage and attention from the press after the other Crain deaths.
Steve definitely gets the brunt of it being a public figure and an influx of questions about his family and the next “Haunting of” book. I just hope he doesn’t lose his temper and go to slug someone when he’s at some public event.........
The Haunting of Hill House: Olivia Ghosts ↳ “A ghost can be a lot of things. A memory, a daydream, a secret. Grief, anger, guilt. But in my experience most times they’re just what we want to see. Most times a ghost is a wish.“

◆ ——— SAW SENTENCE STARTERS.
’ I want to play a game. ’ ’ My name is Very Fucking Confused; what’s your name? ’ ’ Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you, not any more… ’ ’ I’m having a blast! This is the most fun I’ve had without lubricant! ’ ’ I want you to make a choice. ’ ’ Listen carefully, if you will. There are rules. ’ ’ What’s the last thing you remember? ’ ’ I went to bed in my shithole apartment, and I woke up in an actual shithole. ’ ’ I’m sick from the disease eating away at me inside… ’ ’ I’m sick of people who don’t appreciate their blessings… ’ ’ I’m a kill you, you sick asshole! ’ ’ Congratulations. You are still alive. ’ ’ Most people are so ungrateful to be alive. But not you. ’ ’ You don’t know me, but I know you. ’ ’ Live or die, make your choice. ’ ’ You’re probably wondering where you are. ’ ’ Now I see you as a strange mix of someone angry, yet apathetic. ’ ’ At least we’ll have the cover of darkness. ’ ’ Help! Someone help me! Is someone there? ’ ’ Hey! Oh shit, I’m probably dead. ’ ’ Who said anything about a warrant? ’ ’ If you are so sick then why do I have so many photos of you up and about? ’ ’ How much blood will you shed to stay alive? ’ ’ I’ll leave you in this room to rot. ’ ’ I know it’s you, you son of a bitch! ’ ’ My camera, it doesn’t know how to lie. ’ ’ You tell anyone you were here? ’ ’ Stop the lies! You’re a liar! I need to know the truth! ’ ’ You don’t recall getting your picture taken in that parking lot? ’ ’ How can you go through life pretending that you’re happy? ’ ’ Does that mean you saw what happened to me? ’ ’ Oh for fuck’s sake! I give up! ’ ’ You think it is over, but the games have just begun. ’ ’ You feel you now have control, don’t you? ’ ’ I don’t have a fucking soul… ’ ’ Will you learn how to let go and truly save them? ’ ’ What you can’t do, is save everyone. ’ ’ I promise that my work will continue. ’ ’ If you can’t do it for me, do it for yourself. ’ ’ I do, but addiction has ruined your life. ’ ’ I’m bleeding man. Please just let me go. ’ ’ Killing is distasteful… to me. ’ ’ How did you walk out of that building? ’ ’ So unless you’ve got something else to say… back the fuck off. ’ ’ Playing with matches again? ’ ’ I want to know if you have what it takes to survive. ’ ’ They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery… ’ ’ We killed eight people and stole a property and nobody cared. ’ ’ Why? Was it for money? This was your plan? ’ ’ You’re a monster! ’ ’ Fix me, you motherfucker! ’ ’ Why don’t you fucking tell me something that I don’t know, you stupid cunt?! ’ ’ For three years I wanted to kill you. ’ ’ I’m never gonna be able to forgive myself for what happened. ’ ’ You may not remember me, but I most certainly remember you. ’ ’ There’s no preventative treatment for what you have. ’ ’ Please don’t do this to me. I have a family. ’ ’ You’re asking me to do the impossible. ’ ’ I’m sorry, but your own actions have caused this. ’ ’ What?! What am I supposed to learn from this?! ’ ’ This is the piece taken from the latest victim. ’ ’ How many next times are there gonna be? ’ ’ Get used to me, ‘cause I’m not going anywhere. ’ ’ When the time’s right, you’ll know what to do with it. ’ ’ That rolled off your tongue real smooth. ’ ’ Wait! What the fuck are you doing?! ’ ’ Please don’t let me die! Please don’t! ’ ’ Oh, well that’s it, isn’t it?! It’s over! ’ ’ Look at me! When you’re killing me, you look at me! ’ ’ I never saw any indication of psychotic behavior. ’ ’ You can never really tell what someone’s thinking on the inside. ’ ’ Well, there’s a problem with that, though. ’ ’ Go on, fucking pussy! Go! Go! Go! ’ ’ Maybe addiction’s just part of human nature. ’ ’ Remember, don’t trust the one who saves you. ’ ’ You want a chance? I’ll give you a chance. ’ ’ What do you mean you don’t know about this? ’ ’ You didn’t cut your own arm off? ’ ’ What condition? There is no condition. ’ ’ I didn’t have it penciled in on my schedule. ’ ’ It’s not the first time some psychopath called me out. ’ ’ That’s a problem you’re gonna have to solve before it’s too late. ’ ’ How do you just wake up in a room and have no idea where you are? ’ ’ I guess you’ve never been drunk before. ’ ’ I spent three years at college drunk. ’ ’ You asked me what I wanted and I told you. ’ ’ You seem to know a whole lot about me. ’ ’ I feel a whole lot of things right now. ’ ’ The only dooryou know how to open… is between your legs! ’ ’ Why don’t you shut the hell up?! ’ ’ That’s your luck, bending on over in prison, you little dickhead! ’ ’ If you’re gonna threaten me with a knife, you might as well cut me a little. ’ ’ You savor everything, be it a glass of water or a walk in the park. ’ ’ It’s the tool, thats going to save your soul. ’ ’ I didn’t do anything to you! ’ ’ Don’t open the door! ’ ’ You have to save yourself. ’ ’ Do you wanna play a game? ’ ’ That’s exactly it, you didn’t do anything. ’ ’ You identify more with a cold corpse than you do with a living human. ’ ’ You should know better than anyone, what happens then. ’ ’ I go for the neck, but I’m not the brain surgeon. ’ ’ Now you better start fucking paying attention. ’ ’ Suffering? You haven’t seen anything yet. ’ ’ Yeah, that’s right. I’m a murderer. ’ ’ So, do you have everything you need? ’ ’ You’d be surprised what tools can save a life. ’ ’ Then help me! Fix me! Fix me motherfucker! I’m standing right here! ’ ’ You have to play by the fucking rules! ’ ’ The human body is a miraculous creation. ’ ’ Game over. ’

continuing (x) .// @plastiicparasite // big brother steve
The world was spinning. No, not spinning; more like moving in tall, angry waves, leaving Luke swaying even thought he was standing still. The solid frame of his brother was like a tether, an anchor, keeping him upright, safe, out of harm’s way and out of the deep, dark seas. Everything hurt. Everything was too cold. Too warm. Too clammy. Too dry. His brain seemed to throb and grow, trying to leak out of his eyes and ears but at the same time he felt as though his skull was empty, dark and filled with bruised cobwebs, the spiders crawling out through the cracks in his jaw, scratching the back of his throat.
“’m sorry,” he mumbled, weak and quiet. Everything felt like it was unravelling… again. His brother knew what to do. His brother had his own life figured out, had everything you could ever want. A beautiful house. A beautiful wife. A wonderful dream job, writing successful books, turning more and more famous with each published work. Luke just wanted to be like him, so very badly. Twenty-five and a lost cause, going from house to house to rehab center, to street alley to bench to cardboard box. Twenty-five with nothing but stigma to his name and dirty looks when he was introduced as a Crain sibling in any context.
The house smelled of dinner, of red wine freshly poured and lit candles. A whiff of perfume soared through the air, too, when Leigh seemed to pass by, saying something that echoed in his hollow brain. It wasn’t meant for him, anyway. Was meant for Steve. She was kind to him too, Leigh, forgave him for a lot, opened her home and her arms to him and each time he hurt her just the same as he had any other of his family members.
Oh, if mom could see him now… how she would have cried and cried and cried.
Sniffling, nodding, Luke barely pushed himself off of Steve to look around with bloodshot eyes, wet, thick tears welling and flowing down his dirty face. Home was no where, yet he wanted to go there so badly. What did that say about him, he feared? Did he just want to… not be anywhere? Was that home, the darkness? “I’m– I’m sorry I c-come here and ruin your night,” he half-brokenly sobbed, dragging the tears away with the well-worn hoodie sleeve. He can’t stand to look his brother in the eye, though… too hard. The eye in the wooden floor is a better place to look.
“I don’t wanna be–, I-I can leave Steve I promise it’s okay if– if you don’t want me here-”
Steve barely registered Leigh’s words, simply nodding and peering over Luke’s shoulder to share a look with her that indicated she understood. They had been through this before. How many times had Luke come knocking, wounded, with his tail between his legs and begging for scraps?
Leigh was Steve’s rock. The woman had been with him through thick and thin and had never shied away from a new challenge. When they were fresh graduates, no money to be heard of, they had worked through the hardships together. Steve could not imagine himself surviving half of the shit in his life without her guidance, wise beyond her years and always bringing with her a poised and composed sense of calm. Steve needed that support now with Luke’s return. These two, Leigh and Luke, were constant forces of chaos and order in his life. (Funnily enough, he needed them both.)
Steve’s arms fell to his sides as Luke pushed himself away. It gave him the time to assess his brother. That was something the Crain boys had always been good at: details. He scrutinized Luke now. Dirty fingernails, eyes red from crying, and smelling distinctly of the streets. He must have been out for a few days, and truly OUT. A twinge of anger ran through Steve at this realization. Luke had only sought help after his supply had run dry.
But that was how it always went and Steve would continue to play into it again and again and again—
“You can stay, but I swear to God – if you have any shit leftover, you toss it now. Kits, needles, I don’t care. It goes in the trash. I don’t want Leigh to be around whatever you’ve dragged in, all right?” He planted a firm hand on Luke’s shoulder, steering him towards the bathroom. “Clean up and I’ll find you something to wear. You feel well enough to do that?”
