“Sorry.” David muttered. Didn’t know why he apologized. Not like it hurt and it would hardly break him. It was hard to not say sorry when the android had that voice and face. Hard to really deny him much of anything. While others avoided the situation completely, David’s curiosity got the better of him. Hence why he’s here now. “They still have you doing detective work.” David commented as he thought through it. “Why? You have strength and abilities that…and I hate to say this shit, surpass most of us here, besides Connor. You should be doing something instead of fucking interrogations.

Even in Gavin…the real Gavin’s life, David always thought he could do more. He just didn’t get a damn chance to.

He finally got hold of the mass inside the others arm. He carefully pulled it out and set it down onto the desk top. “There. That shouldn’t be fucking with your insides anymore.” He pushed the wires back in and closed the panel. His thumb brushed along the smooth casing. “Do you remember a lot about us here?”

Gavin had insisted several times over that hebe allowed on cases more prevalent to an android than a human but thus far Fowler had denied his request, keeping him on ‘human’ work, and if anything, cases less dangerous than his human peers were expected to work. “Fuck knows. Ask Fowler, it’s his idea” Flexing his fingers he turned his hand over, gaze lingering on Davids hand as he caressed the casing. “...Doesn’t work like that. I’m not- I know things. I saw cctv footage, shit he had on his camera and phone but....I don’t have ‘memories’. I know who Gavin reed is, I was made to look like him, act like him but....I ain’t him. Not really” He was a walking copy of a dead man, filled with half formed memories and snippets of a life he had never led.

Poking around in wires wasn’t something he did often, but it was something he had taught himself in the line of duty. If he didn’t, he would be just another dinosaur that didn’t get with the times. One malfunctioning android could royally screw up his team’s flow. So David took it upon himself to learn a thing or two about basic android repair. It wasn’t all that hard. Most shit was just like this. Something you had to pull out or reconnect.

Smoke started to billow up from the opening followed by a spark. Well fuck. David wasn’t perfect.

“Sorry.” He muttered. “Just grazed something. Nothing to panic about.” He noted the android decided to stop talking. Might be for the better if it wasn’t for that ring of red flashing every second. “Don’t bust a gasket. I’m almost done.” David placed the tweezers between his teeth to hold it while his fingers reconnected some loose wires. He took the tweezers between his fingers and continued.

“Did they assign you a partner yet?” Wouldn’t hurt to make small talk. Might take Gavin’s thoughts off of what was happening.

The misstep has Gavin flinching, a strange sensation shooting up his arm, not exactly pain but-

It hardly felt good.

“Watch it” Shit, he’d trusted the guy and here he was about to break his god damn arm. That’s the last thing he needed, going to Kamski with his tail between his legs clutching his own mangled arm. No doubt he’d have words and probably Davids head.

At the question of partnership he just scoffed, shaking his head, picking at a scratch on the table top. “No. Assigned me someone but-...They turned it down. Doesn’t matter. I don’t want a partner anyway, what's the fucking point?”

The only people who had long term assigned partners were Hank and Connor and fuck knows he didn’t want to wind up like those assholes, some android human wonder team duo. He was better working by himself. Even if people weren’t actively hateful towards him, it was clear they felt uneasy, purposely avoiding him, very few even making eye contact, and those that did seemed to take it as a challenge.
