Here’s the Mattel Fashion Friends Party Dress doll sent by @baileynorth

These are meant as informative photos more than “impressive photos of an obscure doll”

and whooo is this doll obscure.  A Kmart exclusive from the very early 1990s that was made by Mattel with no connection to Barbie, other than using the standard Barbie “palm to rear” click knee body often used for swimsuit Barbie (and friends) dolls and a statement on the box that the doll could wear all of Barbie’s clothes.  There was also a swimsuit version of this doll, and a Skipper-size smaller doll.

And that’s all I know about these.  Why were they even made?

I remember seeing them on the shelves and thinking they just looked so cheap.  I never bought any.  Now, though, for so many reasons, I can appreciate this doll.  It does definitely look like a Mattel product, but from a slightly different dimension (but that might be influenced by the fact that I do remember these, and they were only in Kmart, and US Kmart stores have always been their own dimension.)
