Brambleclaw’s arc in TNP would have been so much more fulfilling if he Hadn’t become deputy actually. Like he can still become deputy eventually bc I know that’s what the narrative wants and stuff but yknow he spends all this time thirsting for power and creating excuses about why it’s okay for him to feel that way and then in the end he just. Gets that power? When a much better lesson would be yknow he kills hawkfrost saves Firestar and then he’s not rewarded for doing the right thing (bare minimum) by deputyship When He Hasn’t Even Had An Apprentice. It would have been cool to see his character arc culminate with him being okay with not having power, with learning that his ambition doesn’t need to be slaked instantly by being given what he wants. In my mind brackenfur or dustpelt become deputy, and then by the time oots rolls around then sure bramble can become deputy when they die or step down. But it’s a strange moral that the only thing bramble has to do to be allowed deputyship is save his leader’s life (something any loyal warrior would do) and I guess be favored by god
