Holy shit. The Israeli whistleblower story CNN just broke is insane. I cannot believe what I’m reading
Rare firsthand accounts by Israeli whistleblowers cast light on the horrific conditions in the Sde Teiman torture camp in Naqab Desert. Palestinians are stripped down, blindfolded, forced in diapers, and forbidden from speaking. They are subjected to beatings and mental degradation regularly. So much depravity that has gone unseen. Doctors performing procedures outside of their expertise, amputations due to zip-typing of abductees’ wrists, having large dogs unleashed on them at night. Being fed food through straws. I can’t believe it. I am truly in shock. And this is just one whistleblower accounting of this. Who knows what else is happening beyond our knowledge
My heart is breaking into a million pieces
Worth mentioning that multiple Palestinians have recounted these stories before, as direct victims detailing their experiences. What's unique about these accounts from CNN Israeli whistle-blower is that they're from an Israeli, therefore people are more likely to take this seriously.
"hostile work environment" is just about the funniest CW a person could put on an episode about a man who is forced to hunt down his own staff and then prepare them as a meal like "yeah the vibes at work today were rancid"
This is Lio, a 3 month old kitten I rescued from a sewer hole close to my house in São Paulo, Brazil. He was crying a lot, covered in dirt and grime, and we barely managed to help him escape hypothermia.
He suffered a number of fractures in the rear portion of his body. According to the doctors I've visited, it's likely this wasn't due to a fall or car accident. Judging by the fact he still had a collar on him, I believe he was attacked and discarded in the sewer by his former owner. Thankfully, his organs are working properly, although he needs assistance emptying his bladder. However, he's under a great deal of pain due to the fractures in his bones, especially the femur.
We recently discovered that his tail is suffering from necrosis, as the blood flow to it stopped from the middle of his tail to his tip. It's not life threatening, but it could get much worse if it's allowed to progress.
At the moment, Lio needs to undergo two surgeries: One for his femur, and an amputation for his tail. These surgeries added up to 5,000 BRL(Brazilian Real).
This is a separate value, not including the cost of keeping him in the hospital, exams and the medications that come with them.
Sadly, our finances were unable to recover in time for Lio's arrival, as we had another rescue a couple of months ago that unfortunately passed away: Charlie. We dealt with the former rescue mostly by ourselves, meaning we had a lot of installments to pay for his treatment. Even though he suffered from FELV and later FIP, we fought for him until the end.
Lio's chances of survival are much higher than Charlie's, and he's even capable of walking again. But the price of his treatment is much higher, and very time sensitive.
I feel deeply ashamed doing this but at this juncture I'm putting his life before my dignity. Please, if you see this, help us in any way you can by spreading the word or helping with any amount. The USD to BRL conversion rate is rather high, so even the smallest donations will go a long way.
Our P*yPal is linked to [email protected] (For other Brazilians, our PIX is linked to that same email.)
I lost two rescues in the past, and my brother as well. Please help me save Lio. I can't let him go or live the rest of his life in pain. He means the world to me, even though we don't know each other for that long. Finding him cold, dirty, beat-up and alone broke my heart, and I want to make sure he never goes through that again. Thank you ❤️
EDIT 01/05: I forgot to write this in my original post, but if any potential donors would like to view the charges related to Lio's care to be sure their money is indeed going where it should be, simply send us a message through that same email and we'll be happy to reply ASAP.
For reference, this is a screenshot of the costs related to his stay at the orthopedist so far.
UPDATE 02/05: Lio's tail surgery was a success, and now it will no longer affect the rest of his body. However, his hematocrit levels are dangerously low.
The value on the left comes from a blood test performed on the 29th, when we first rescued him. The values on the right are the ideal hematocrit levels he should be in. So from the beginning, they were already low.
We received a call from the doctor today, and he told us that a post-op blood test revealed his levels sit at 11.9%. This is dangerously low, and he will need to go through blood transfusion ASAP.
Considering that this is a very urgent situation, we already authorized the transfusion, adding 1200 BRL to his stay at the hospital. Any help is appreciated, so that we may continue to care for him. Please.
UPDATE 08/05: Lio is almost home with us, but we've had complications. This Saturday, his bladder ruptured due to it being inflamed because of trauma around the area. "Thankfully", this happened right at the vet, so they were able to act immediately and perform surgery on it. By a mercy, Lio was able to survive the surgery, and none of his organs were compromised as a result.
Unfortunately, this did increase the cost of his stay exponentially. What was originally 5000 BRL is now 14,500 BRL. Though we received assistance, in the form of donations and discounts from the vet, this is still an extremely high value.
He's stable and doing much better now, even though he has to wear a cone.
He's fighting desperately to stay alive. When the doctors told me about his bladder, I was sure that was the end of him, considering how dangerous that is and how he barely had enough time to recover from the previous surgery. But he somehow pulled through, Lio wants to live so, so much.
We will need to buy medication as well as other supplies after he is released from the vet. Please, any amount helps, no matter how small. If you can't donate, please spread the word. I want to give Lio the life he deserves, but I can't do it alone.
This is why climate change isn't just an environmental issue. It's a social issue, a cultural issue, and a legal issue. It's inextricably tied to capitalism--a system where the affluent are permitted to buy an unnecessary convenience simply because they're affluent enough to pay for it.
Am I saying it should be illegal to own and operate private jets? I don't know. Maybe I am. Seeing this obscene amount of carbon emission for one stupid football game sure makes me think it's irresponsible for private jet ownership to be allowed by a nation.
1 hour ride 4lbs carbon emissions.
1 hour private jet 2 metric tons(1000 kg/2'205 lbs) carbon emissions.
How many jets flew Vagas to LA and other US and international locations both ways?
And these fucks say its our fault.
