Solar System: Things to Know This Week
From images to virtual reality and interactive simulations, NASA offers plenty of ways to explore our solar system ā and beyond ā in 3-D.
1. Step One: Get the Glasses
Many of the images and interactive features require special glasses with red and blue lenses.
Make regular 3-D glasses: http://go.nasa.gov/2lwQOoP
Make fancy Mars rover 3-D glasses: http://go.nasa.gov/2lwEmWe
2. Breaking News (Virtual Reality Edition)
Big news from 40 light-years away (235 trillion miles). Our Spitzer Space Telescope revealed the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star. Three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, all of them have the potential for water on their surfaces.
No glasses required.
Get to know one of those planets, TRAPPIST-1d in virtual reality: http://go.nasa.gov/2ldaGKY
Try the virtual reality panorama (especially great for a phone or tablet):Ā

6. Get in the Pilotās Seat
Take a look inside the cockpit of our high altitude ER-2 aircraft as it descends for landing at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. This month, scientists used used the aircraft to collect data on coral reef health and volcanic emissions and eruptions. Flying at 65,000 feet, above 95 percent of Earthās atmosphere, the ER-2 has a unique ability to replicate the data a future satellite could collect. Data from this mission will help in developing a planned NASA satellite mission to study natural hazards and ecosystems called Hyperspectral Infrared Imager, or HyspIRI.

How hard is it to become an austronaut? I want to start to studie astrophysics and I don't know if I'll ever get any kind of job. Do you have any tips for people like me?
Astrophysics is a perfect field for pursuing any work at NASA! Ā A degree in a STEM field is a requirement of becoming an astronaut, but other than that there are many possibilities. Ā One of the best things about the astronaut office is its diversity. Ā We are scientists, engineers, military pilots, flight test engineers, medical doctors, etc. etc. My biggest tip is to ensure you are pursuing what it is you are passionate about as thatās the only way to truly become exceptional at what you are doing, and most importantly, to be happy doing it. Ā Passion, hard work, and dedication will get you there. Ā Good luck!
What are the most important skills an astronaut should have m?
First of all, the basic requirement is a bachelorās degree in a STEM field, and 3 years of experience (which can also be substituted for by an advanced degree). Other than that, operational experience (things with a technical/active/hands on nature like flying airplanes, SCUBA diving, taking things apart and putting them back together, basic fix-it skills, etc. etc.) is very important, as this is an integral aspect of every day of a space mission. Ā What we callĀ āexpeditionary skillsā are also essential, basically the types of things you try to instill in your children, like how to play nicely with others, self care, team care, etc. Ā I like to think about this on the lines of a camping trip and who you would like to have along with you ā¦someone that is competent and can take good care of themselves and their equipment, someone that contributes to the team and helps with group tasks, someone that is good natured and pleasant to be around, etc., someone fun! Ā These things are increasingly important now that we are regularly doing long duration missions (typical International Space Station mission is 6 months). Ā Experience living in extreme/remote/isolated environments with small teams is also useful, as it is similar to what we experience as astronauts. Ā Ā Ā

why not both?
Well that was unexpected...
For a growing number of American kids, porn is their sex ed.Ā Now Pornhub is hoping to offer their audience some more formal lessons in how to be a healthy and happy sexual being.
On Wednesday, the massive adult entertainment destination took the somewhat surprising step of launching the āPornhub Sexual Health Center.āĀ Theyāre hoping the free sub-site will become a go-to resource for some of their 70 million daily users on all manner of topics, including STIs, sexual safety and how to manage relationships.
Theyāve chosen Dr. Laurie Betito, a renowned sex therapist, to direct the site and theyāll also be working with a number of doctors, therapists and other experts to offer advice and answer questions.Ā Corey Price, Pornhubās Vice President, told Mashable, āOur goal is to provide our visitors with a site that has credible and insightful information, rather than have them scouring the internet.ā
While itās a database theyāll build up over time, a first look reveals theyāve started with the fundamentals ā with answers to things like āBabies. Where do they come from?ā and āAre there really three holes?āĀ These might seems almost laughably basic to adult consumers of hardcore porn, but there are a lot of young people for whom these are very real questions.
Price told Mashable they werenāt aiming the content specifically at beginners.Ā He said they simply want to appeal to āthose who are looking for trustworthy sex tips and health advice provided by experts.āĀ But it seems like they realize this could prove to be an especially valuable resource for their younger audience, who most likely isnāt getting comprehensive (much less sex-positive) sex ed in schools.
There are, of course, plenty of online sexual health and education resources, but for many kids, landing on sites like Pornhub is already their way into learning about sex.Ā Porn can obviously teach you plenty about the basics and mechanics of intercourse, but thereās a whole range of other things ā biology, health, consent, relating to intimate partners, just to name a few ā that you wonāt pick up from watching videos like āBig tits round assesā or āSloppy throat games.ā
So if they can slide their curious audience over to the PSHC while theyāre already on the site, it could function as pretty useful one-stop shop for filling in the blanks left by spotty sex ed classes and the birds and bees talks given by often bewildered parents.
Neat!
Holy shit their section on trans people was actually really good and not what I expected from something hosted by a porn site! If they had a containing various sexualities and whatnot as well, theyāll definitely have a good resource on their hands!
when a god damn porn site has better information about trans health than most school systems
Calling ALL of tumblr I need your help!!!
The standing rock tribe are being silenced about what is going on up there with the Dakota access pipe line.
I beg of you to help me get the topic out. It will affect millions of lives. The pipe will leave into the tribes only source of drinking water. We are trying so hard to get this out on twitter and facebook, but we are being silenced.
Today a security team came into the middle of a peaceful native american protest and numerous people got maced and bitten by the dogs.Ā
I want you all to take a look at the terror on these young girls faces. Then I want you to take a look at the two aggressive dogs. When did it become OK to use dogs against children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters OUR freakin people!!! The police will only let a dog go if the suspect runs or the suspect is violent and causes a threat to the public of the officer. Do you see a weapon in these young girls hands? Do these girls look dangerous? The answer would be no. No they donāt. The people with the dogs arenāt even police officers! They are security guards. They couldnāt even keep control of their own dogs leading to them being attacked also.
Most of you wonāt even bat an eyelid at my posts, others will be annoyed because of my constant posting. This is happening right this second and threatening millions of lives. I have to help. We can only break the silence if you join us in this fight. Just sharing my post helps the reality of the situation get out there. I now beg of you to share this post in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Give them a bigger voice. Help them shout this from the roof tops. Please⦠Rachael <3 <3 #NoDAPL

LEAKED Suicide Squad Script
Hi my name is Lime Green Jared Leto Joker Banksy and I have short green hair (thatās how I got my name) and icy blue eyes that are like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like marilyn manson (AN: if you donāt know who he is get da hell out of here!). I have pale white skin. Iām also a criminal and go to an asylum called Arkum in GOTHam. Iām a goth (in case you couldnāt tell) and I love hot topic and buy all my clothes from there. Today I was wearing a purple leather jacket and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, and black eyeliner. I even hav black teeth. I have lots of goffick tattoos with skullz and other goffick symbols.I was walking outside arkum. It was snowing and raining, so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. Batman stared at me. I put up my middle finger at him.
I kind of want to see a story about an elf; tall, beautiful, clumsy as fuck, and an industrial worker who canāt do archery to save themselves and swears all the time.
And I kind of want to see a story about a dwarf; short, robust, hairy, elegant, sweet, very refined and a lover of poetry whoās never said a rude word in their life.
I just think it would be an interesting change of pace.
theyāre girlfriends
theyāre super fucking cute and i need more of this.
Thereās a song thatās been proven to reduce anxiety by 65%. Itās called Weightless by Macaroni Union, and it was specifically designed to slow your heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and lower cortisol levels. Itās so effective that itās dangerous to drive while listening to it because it can make you drowsy. Source Source 2 Source 3
YO O_O
I knew within seconds that Iād heard this before.
It was one of the first Tumblr posts I favorited.
Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay. Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as āentrainmentā. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm. Dr David Lewis, one of the UKās leading stress specialists said: āāWeightlessā induced the greatest relaxation ā higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions.ā The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being Rex advised against listening to it while driving. The top 10 most relaxing tunes were: 1. Marconi Union - Weightless 2. Airstream - Electra 3. DJ Shah - Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix) 4. Enya - Watermark 5. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing 6. Barcelona - Please Donāt Go 7. All Saints - Pure Shores 8. AdelevSomeone Like You 9. Mozart - Canzonetta Sullāaria 10. Cafe Del Mar - We Can Fly
One of the comments suggests pairing it with Rainymood.
The combined calm might be weaponized with adding this songĀ and some crackling fire.
When I was literally unable to sleep at all, my senior at work gave me this song to listen to!

My cat might be put down tomorrow...
Iām scared Mom woke me up and told me she made a vet appointment for tumbleweed tomorrow to get her hind paw looked at because sheās still limping. Sheās been limping for about a week or so. I honestly think its either a sprained paw or a wrenched/ingrown claw. if the cost to fix whatever is wrong with her paw is over 350 dollars, weāll have to put tumbleweed down. :C Sheās a perfectly healthy cat otherwise, she eats fine, she is able to move around fine other than the limp. She still plays and she still nips at people when they donāt pay attention to her.
Tumbleweed is 13 years old, Iāve had her since I was 8. Iām not ready to let her go yet. Iām determined to save my cat, so I need as many commissions as possible. The appointment is set for 9:30 AM EST tomorrow. Iād need at -LEAST- another 150 dollars. Please help. Ā Ā
you can DM me on here, add me on discord ( UnknownBearProd#0659 ) or email me at [email protected]
Guys letās help her out please. Spread this around or see if you can commission her please.
I heard that a large reason why Yuri on Ice is so popular in Japan is because of how realistic it is.
I gave it some thought, and I think thatās not restricted to Japan at all - itās a genuine reason regardless of the nation.
I think that stems from the lack of typical anime tropes. Itās what makes the anime accessible to newcomers or to people who havenāt previously enjoyed anime. I know for a fact that many fans of YOI have never seen anime before or never enjoyed the concept of it but easily got into Yuri on Ice.
I think this is precisely the lack of anime tropes that adds to its realism and makes it easy to pick up for anyone. Of course, itās not trope-free, not at all, but letās list a few of the ways in which it managed to defy the popular tropes: itās not set in high school, the characters are adults (but the life of those who arenāt isnāt centered around school), there are no annoying female characters, no female body related fanservice, doesnāt rely on the same gags repeated ad nasueam, the main character is considered āweakā because of an actual mental illness and not just being wishy washy and bland, the protagonist doesnāt always win gold (in fact, he never does, but sometimes he doesnāt even place on the podium), there are no villains and no heroes, all the characters are likeable in some way, most of the stunts they perform are imaginable in real life (even if not always 100% doable), the gay relationship isnāt passed off as a joke and doesnāt involve typical BL dynamics, the characters actively use social media (like most people these days) and change their outfits every day.
Thereās even more that you could add to the list, but I think this shows enough already.
Of course, thatās not to say that Yuri on Ice features no anime tropes because it does, but theyāre usually not as invasive or off-putting as in many other anime.
I think realism really is an important part of Yuri on Ice and why the anime was able to gain so many fans, especially among people who were nver particularly interested in anime as a whole. Through not pandering to otaku culture, it was able to show a natural, organic story, one that most people could relate to or at the very least imagine in real life.
I think it is really is the realism in it that struck a chord with so many people - it felt grounded in real life, presenting situations and conversations that could actually happen, as well as people (and their cultures) from all over the world, all with their strengths, weaknesses and motivations that were believable and often relatable. I personally think it was the anime that you should show to someone who thinks that anime is just flashy fights and pink-haired girls with huge breasts and tons of screaming.
Yuri on Ice was a story in anime form, but it wasnāt what you could call a ātypical animeā and I think thatās partly what made such success possible. Through not following usual paths set up by many popular anime and manga series, it was able to go beyond the otaku community and grab the hearts of people who would never otherwise watch anime.
