CARRD.  STUDY.  PROMPTS.

"oh,  fuuuck  you."  jab  is  all  but  growled,  low  and  throaty  and  originating  from  deep  within  his  chest.  the  same  place,  ironically  enough,  where  frank's  words  hit  the  hardest.  the  sting  is  incomparable,  and  for  a  moment,  it  has  robby  reeling.  a  pain  like  this  is  all  but  foreign  to  him,  and  he  blames  nobody  but  himself  for  letting  his  guard  down  enough  to  encourage  it.

head  hangs.  fingers  curl  into  tight,  unrelenting  fists  by  his  sides.  knuckles  turn  white.  sharp  exhale  slips  through  flared  nostrils.  "after  everything  that  happened,"  he  begins,  "after  all  the  shit  you  put  me  and  yourself  and  this  entire goddamn  department  through,  you  wanna  throw  a  hissy  fit  because  i'm  not  kissing  your  ass  anymore?"  he  barks  out  a  laugh,  grating  and  mean,  and  lifts  his  head  to  seek  out  frank's  gaze.

he  doesn't  need  to  be  told  twice.  it's  a  miracle,  really,  considering  his  usual  instinct  is  to  pull  away  when  someone  craves  closeness.  robby  can  provide  a  steady  list  of  things,  but  reliable  intimacy  isn't  one  of  them.  wasn't  one  of  them,  anyway  .  .  .  until  her.  it's  easy  when  it's  heather.  he  doesn't  question  it,  instead  stepping  forward  and  allowing  lanky  arms  to  engulf  her  frame  in  an  embrace.  it  isn't  tight  or  suffocating,  but  it's  consistent  and  soothing  all  the  same.

one  hand  rises,  stroking  comforting  patterns  along  her  back.  his  head  dips,  cheek  pressed  against  the  top  of  her  head,  and  robby  draws  in  a  long,  indulgent  inhale.  familiarizing  himself  with  her  scent,  with  her  warmth,  will  never  get  tedious.  for  a  few  beats,  he's  silent.  nothing  needs  to  be  said.  he  rocks  on  his  feet:  back  and  forth,  back  and  forth,  guiding  them  at  a  gentle  rhythm  like  a  boat  taking  on  calm  seas.
