Kal steps through the door, gaze darting around, expecting some kind of reaction. He finds Dakkar easily enough, bent over his desk, clearly at work with—something, ugh, Kal doesn't know. He's obviously heard him come in, because Kal sees his head tilt to the side.

But…he doesn't look up, so focused on whatever task is in front of him instead.

A spark of irritation rises up in Kal. He's not even bothering to spare him a glance! Rude. Surely he's more important than whatever's going on on that desk. He deserves proper attention once he entered - maybe he should bring up that he thought royalty were supposed to have manners.

Dakkar's voice drifts through the air in the next moment, though. "Why are you here, Kal?" It sounds tired, hardly in the mood to talk.

Well, too bad. Kal didn't come all this way for nothing.

"What a way to start a conversation!" Kal says, brightly—though he'll admit the brightness perhaps isn't very geniune. Can he really be blamed, though? "Usually people start with hello, Dak."

His voice comes out tired. "Why are you here, Kal?"

He's not surprised that someone would have come after him, given his rather abrupt exit from the training field. If he's honest with himself, it was more like fleeing. Trying to escape the crawling shame and humiliation and pitying looks when Father had berated him, in front of everyone.

No, he's not truly surprised. But he would have expected it to be Margaret who followed him. The fact that it's Kal, of all people… that is surprising, to say the least.

"What a way to start a conversation!" Kal exclaims, in his usual mocking brightness. Something about it sounds tighter than usual—forced, strained, in some way he can't quite discern without turning around to check. "Usually people start with hello, Dak."
