A long-ass time ago, I advocated for FREE cosplay lounges as a benefit to conventions and cosplayers and outlined why I felt it was important. In the past decade, many others have felt the same and several amazing fan and volunteer-led efforts have sunk thousands of hours into making them a reality at conventions across the world.

Now, we've hit the part of capitalism where ReedPop/Emerald City Comic Con is trying to charge people for cosplay lounge access.

I hate seeing another fan-for-fans initiative being hijacked for profit, when the tickets for ECCC are already ridiculously expensive.

Even in the most optimistic case, where it's just a "VIP" version of it.. pay for play is already a huge issue in the cosplay community. It's extra shitty that privileged cosplayers get another-leg up especially tied to a competition with a cash prize.

One trend I'm hating is when guys tolerate their partners' hobbies in the most passive way possible (like acknowledging she likes makeup or knitting or femme hobbies but not supporting it), but suddenly dial in and support them if they express an interest in their geek hobby out of nowhere.

If you didnt drop the ball on supporting her hobby, she wouldn't have to pretend to like MTG now. -_- And she sees it when you're happy to drop 100 on magic cards without an issue but lose your mind if she likes an expensive palette or a few Labubus (which she would honestly get more use out of than the games you never take the time to play with her other than mansplaining cards and rules).
