. . . is the marriage of two photos taken at this year’s Bellinger Orchid Society’s annual orchid show . . . I had many hours of fervent photographing of these and other varieties of locally raised orchids last August, and this orchid's photos I thought to be the most unique in a good bunch. It is a terrestrial orchid, Pterostylis Curta, and won first prize in the Australian native orchid species section.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, a tribute to the depth of nature, these works reflect the environment of the Bellingen Valley and beyond.  Be taken on a journey into the wonder of nature’s beauty …

~ As a moth will seek the light, a cicada emerges from the ground to sing in the open air, if only for a brief time, to create and pass on ~ This work, a celebration of emergence on the world tree, or one tree, a mythic tree symbolic throughout the world and named Yggdrasil  by the Anglo-Saxons, is also reflected in Celtic culture. The tree top represents heaven, the 'upper world ', its roots the 'lower world ', and the middle is called 'middle earth', the place where humanity resides in 3 dimensional density, the place between heaven and the deep. Yggdrasil II showed at Summer Sessions exhibition of combined works, Matilda Street Gallery, Matilda Street, Macksville, January to February 2012

:: UNIQUE talents come together to describe a world of wonder and natural beauty in the exhibition ‘songs to a deeper world ‘, a tribute to the depth of nature, an experiential voyage through image, object, sound and word. Contributions are sculpture with artist, jury–rigger and ‘ship’ builder, Sue Gorrell; photographic art, prints on paper and cloth by artist and freelance designer, Pingala Walsh; soundscapes with sound artist, musician and music teacher Susan McGowan; plus words of insight by freelance writer and yoga teacher, Helen Cushing. The exhibition will run from 11th April till 20th May 2010 at the Bellingen Gallery and Framing Studio, 3-44 Hyde Street, Bellingen.
