If anything, Eugene Roe was a damn good medic. He took care of his boys, bared his teeth when necessary and wasn't afraid to stand up to his superiors.

What hadn't quite settled in was the fact that the men were just as protective of him as he was of them.

Eugene does his best, tries his hardest, despite not really wanting to be a medic. Spina gets it, and they grumble over it together. Eugene has always thought doctors and medics are book-learned people. Him? He hasn’t been to school since sixth grade. Sure, he’s good with his hands, has been working since he was a teenager, but this is not what he imagined when he enlisted. The others from Easy have been picked for mortar crews, riflemen, hell, even runners.

“Let’s drop the ma’am, hm? Lieutenant Salo will do fine,” she smiles.

“You still outrank me, ma’am. But I’ll do my best," Roe flashes a tight smile back.
