it's such bs that the whole guilt-ridden stoic self-sacrificing martyr thing doesn't work outside of fiction. repressing all your emotions and neglecting your physical wellbeing should make you god's most tragically beautiful morally unassailable little soldier of righteousness but all it does is give you bad skin and gastrointestinal problems
like what do you MEAN the number 1 sexiest character trait of all time is just kind of offputting and bad for you in real life. next you'll tell me smoking has consequences other than looking like a mysterious badass

Me when I'm staring out a car window and deciding this would be a great setting for a good chunk of my worldbuilding because it's so romantic yet also vast and deceptively complex and harsh which is perfect for the story's ~vibes~ and gosh could you imagine a character having to trek across all this? It's so Paulo Coehlo and--
Me when "Chaparral" sounds way too Californian and specific for a fantasy story and it would take readers right out of it it, but "scrubland" sounds too bleak and plain and "moors" is too British (and also too cold) and for fuck's sake there has to be a better term for 'small canyon' than 'small canyon' and since when has 'crevasse' only referred to glaciers and--

In the “No, no, we were just kidding” Hasty Pivot dep’t…
Citing backlash, ISBNdb removed its webpages about training AI, denied ever buying, scanning, or selling a book for AI training, and said th
In one now-removed article on its site, ISBNdb said that printed books published before 2022 are ideal for AI training data because they don’t include AI generated text, and ingesting these books could prevent model collapse. The article also suggested that book authors who might be opposed to this use of their work could just write with manipulating and sabotaging AI models in mind. 404 Media spoke to booksellers and saw reports online detailing a sudden uptick in sales recently. “It's not just the quantity, but the weirdness of the orders,” one bookseller told 404 Media. “The type of books [...] there's no rhyme or reason to it. Also, there's a total disregard for the price of the book. I've had some books that sold through this way that were [...] greatly overpriced. That's kind of a tell for AI because they have just so much money.” “Purchasing paper books at scale from the secondary market does not deprive any creator of income they would otherwise have received,” one of ISBNdb’s now-removed pages said. “These are books that have already fully discharged their financial obligation to their creators.”
And yeah, sure, why don't all of us who value writing as art just spend the rest of our lives sabotaging that vital imperative by trying to screw up what we do enough to screw you up. Absolutely. Makes perfect sense.

i got sick of how hard it is to find good fashion pics & reference images of fat/plus size people on pinterest, both as art reference and for my silly little character aesthetic boards, so i started just making a whole board of plus size fashion for the sake of my own mental health, including a whole section thats just vintage & historical pics of fat people and now im feeling better about my body

I was hesitant to reblog this since Pinterest is famous for almost never having any credit and being stolen works, but this is a seriously great reference from what I looked at for anyone wanting to draw fat people. There are numerous sections for different fashion styles, and that's usually impossible to find. So I'm making an exception this single time and reblogging this.
These are a few of the photo categories for an example:
There's not a lot of content of fat men, but there is some. There are also pictures of queer couples, drag queens, historical photos, etc.
Another art reference for poses with fat bodies is the website FatPhotoRef run by @lawlesslagomorph who carefully vets the people who ask for access to the website in order to ensure that none of the fat people who have volunteered photos of themselves will be abused. Donations help keep the website running too!

I was in Mormon brain jail concurrently to when Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped and held, as it turned out, like 20 miles away from us. We would see billboards when we were driving past in our big white institution van, and we would see magazines in the checkout aisle, on the rare occasions we were allowed to enter shops accompanied, about Elizabeth Smart being held somewhere by some guy. This teenage girl who had been kidnapped and brainwashed and held basically in the next valley over. I don't remember how long she was with him, but this was when everyone was freshly looking for her and panicking about how she had been abducted and was being held against her will and brainwashed. Her picture was EVERYWHERE.
So. Imagine dozens of other teenage girls, being held against their will and brainwashed in Utah, seeing these billboards and going, "huh. I'm having a complicated emotional reaction to all of this. It's possible that I might unpack that in two to three decades."
Both of these situations arise from the same societal attitudes. This guy wanted a teenage girl to be trapped with him and unable to leave, regardless of her feelings on the matter, and for her to act a certain way and comply with his desires. He took her from her home and forced her to be somewhere she did not want to be and would not let her go, and he tried to turn her into a different thing. The difference in societal reactions to when one specific, unauthorized guy does this, compared to when someone's parents pay a fancy sounding institution to do it for them, tells you a lot about how we think about the autonomy of teenage girls.
In Utah, the reason these types of institutions are allowed is because their youth rights laws are abysmal even compared to the rest of the US. Children aren't people, they're the property of their parents. Elizabeth Smart's parents didn't want her to be kidnapped, so it was bad. Our parents did want us to be kidnapped, so it was fine.
Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper’s crime was that he didn’t go through the established system for kidnapping and brainwashing teenage girls. This is not even a little bit hyperbolic.
Some ppl are confused about this, I recommend at the very least reading the Wikipedia article on the troubled teen industry. The types of institutions I'm referring to, which operate primarily in Utah, accept kids who have no criminal history or history of drug use, which is usually a requirement in other states, or that is my understanding of how it worked at the time I was imprisoned. And I am equally against them in both cases, to be clear. 👍
I can never take those "maid and princess" kink scenarios as intended because every time I see one I get a vivid mental image of a scenario where owing to a series of bizarre miscommunications each is convinced they're the one taking sexual advantage of the other.
What I'm getting from the notes on this post is that for a lot of y'all your ideal kink scenario is basically an erotic Abbott and Costello bit.
