I lowkey find it rlly weird when people hate on rarepairs/crackships in fandoms (in my example, Death Note) because were you guys not there in 2010s fandom culture? Even in more recent times, like in 2020-2023, just about anyone was shipped with everyone. That's just how it is. Even if you argue that the characters barely interacted or never even met, you can always bring up "what if?"/ "in another universe, where they met," essentially hypotheticals, scenarios, and AUs.
I think a good example of this is Naomi x Misa, aka Fashionmassacre. I barely see anyone talk abt this rarepair, and when I did bring it up in a gc once, I got flaaamed for this (this and Mellodramattic, which tbh surprised me)! Does nobody else think that Naomi and Misa would make such a good duo, whether it's platonic/rival/romantic?
In a universe where Aizawa saw Light speak to Naomi and stopped the convo before Naomi could show Light her real ID, Naomi would've lived long enough to meet Misa. The way I see it, Light would've led Naomi on, acting as a messenger between her and L while actually keeping the two far apart (cause let's bffr, if Naomi and L had worked together, Light would've been caught way sooner). When Misa comes into the picture, Light would maybe get Misa to keep tabs on Naomi. The latter is canonically soft-hearted despite her strong nature and wouldn't mind the blonde's company. They would maybe even become friends without necessarily labeling themselves as so.
And then if one really wants to go down the romantic route, you can go that way... imo, if Fashionmassacre is interpreted romantically, it should be with Naomi being the one to catch feelings while Misa does hold Naomi dearly to her heart yet continues to obsess and be devoted to Light. In other words, a romantic Fashionmassacre would be doomed yuri.
Anyway, THANKS FOR JOINING MY TED TALK!!!!! we love rarepairs in this fandom and we definitely love fashionmassacre (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)
