i remember that in high school maybe like 10th grade (? maybe 9th?) i mentioned the word "sibling" during english class and the teacher gave an entire speech on how i'm using modern SJW language because it's a "newly invented word for the politically correct" and how dubious it is that it doesn't reveal gender. after that i started saying things like "one of my parents" to be intentionally vague and i saw her getting more and more tense the more i spoke. she didn't ask me to speak up anymore

I mean, treating yaoi as the opposite of yuri just doesn't make sense mathematically: boys are not the inverse of girls. The actual opposite of yuri would somehow have to involve fewer than zero girls, and that's not an easy thing to characterise.
