International Eliminate violence against women’s day!!
Here are some facts you should know:
It is estimated that of all women who were the victims of homicide globally in 2012, almost half were killed by intimate partners or family members, compared to less than six per cent of men killed in the same year.
Worldwide, almost 750 million women and girls alive today were married before their 18thbirthday. Child marriage is more common in West and Central Africa, where over 4 in 10 girls were married before age 18, and about 1 in 7 were married or in union before age 15.
Around 120 million girls worldwide (slightly more than 1 in 10) have experienced forced intercourse or other forced sexual acts at some point in their lives. By far the most common perpetrators of sexual violence against girls are current or former husbands, partners or boyfriends.
At least 200 million women and girls alive today have undergone female genital mutilation in the 30 countries with representative data on prevalence. In most of these countries, the majority of girls were cut before age 5.
Adult women account for 51 per cent of all human trafficking victims detected globally. Women and girls together account for 71 per cent, with girls representing nearly three out of every four child trafficking victims.
It is estimated that 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner at some point in their lives. However, some national studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.
Just because we don’t have statistics to back up the numbers in your country it doesn’t mean that you don’t face the same problems.
Here is what you can do to help end violence against women:
Teach your children early on that they are the ones who decide who gets to touch them and where. Consider teaching them the proper names for the parts of their body at a young age so that they can clearly communicate about their bodies. Teach children that it’s their choice whether they want to hug or kiss others, even family.
Raise children to respect others. Teach children to treat others as they would like to be treated. Talk to your children about healthy relationships and the importance of treating their dating partners and others with respect. Teach them that consent from a dating partner is a clear “yes” for sexual activity.
Lead by example. Work to create a culture that rejects violence as a way to deal with problems. Speak up against messages that say that violence against or mistreatment of women is OK. Don’t be violent or abusive yourself.
Become an activist. Participate in an anti-violence event like a local Take Back the Night march. Support domestic violence services and violence prevention programs by donating your time.
Volunteer in youth programs. Become a mentor. Get involved in programs that teach young people to solve problems without violence. Get involved with programs that teach teens about healthy relationships and healthy masculinity and femininity.
Also It’s important to know your local organizations that are willing to interfere and help you …

We're constantly educated around drug use as being highly addictive and destructive. What's the common thread among users that puts them in situations where they discover these drugs or start using?
Youth generally begin using for one of two reasons, 1) underlying emotional pain/trauma, 2) peer group. Those reasons were the same 50 years ago. The problem we’re faced with today is that the use is no longer primarily confined to alcohol and marijuana (slightly addictive,) but it’s now evolved to opiates and methamphetamine (highly addictive.) The reasons for using haven’t shifted but the accessibility, acceptability, and toxicity of the substances being used have drastically worsened the outcomes.
Often, we find TRAUMA to be at the core. Google information regarding (ACES- Adverse Childhood Experiences) You will find that research to be intensely enlightening! But trauma is not all and not necessarily the reason folks embrace substances to “deal”. There can be a lot of contributing factors to an individual’s slide into addiction. Genetics plays a role. Environment. Generational modeling. Stress. Availability. And yet sometimes something as simple as an injury can send someone down a path of opiate/painkiller addiction they never bargained for. Yet it is safe to say at the core of most addictive challenges is BROKENNESS of some sort or another and the drugs do a wonderful job of “reducing the noise” associated with that or do a bang-up job of masking the pain. GOOGLE PBS NEWS HOUR OPIATE and you will see a very informative little 3-minute video that sheds some further light on “how folks get” addicted.

Always help someone. You might be the only one that does.

Ever since I became homeless and tried to reacquaint myself with my family while struggling through the toxic mix of drug abuse and poverty, I have been desperately trying to reconcile my disposition with my closest friends, yearning for their support and companionship, yet fearing my circumstances have become too hazardous for their happiness and recovery...I've always been deprived of experiencing a strong familial bond, knowing what a sense of privacy is, receiving verbal and physical affection, nor have I had a consistent means to develop a routine and organize/work towards goals, so, needless to say, having any sort of relationship with me usually requires a lot of effort and love to maintain...I know I cry about being lonely a lot (to no one in particular) and doing so may alienate me even further, but I don't know how else to relinquish the intensity of it all...
But she’d march into the fires of hell brandishing that parasol of hers if she thought one of us was in danger.
Ramses Emerson in an excerpt from Manuscript H in The Ape Who Guards the Balance by Elizabeth Peters (via teamramses)
I have this heart wrenching feeling/fear that my friendships/potential relationships are, for some undisclosed reason, being constrained and/or defamed, as I have been struggling to even figure out what the fuck to do and where I can go every single day for the past year, all while trying to overcome addiction in my drug-laden environment. I've said this before, but I pray that my silence or unresponsiveness isn't taken as apathy or seem like I'm dodging people--the people I love more than anything--Im just terribly tired and lost and sincerely don't want my circumstances to negatively affect you...
When you’re surrounded by all these people, it can be lonelier than when you’re by yourself. You can be in a huge crowd, but if you don’t feel like you can trust anyone or talk to anybody, you feel like you’re really alone.

I've been living under such chaotic, confusing, and intensely emotional, deceptive, and distressing circumstances for so long that it has become almost impossible for me to be able to trust anyone or focus on getting help. Everyone that I used to feel close to gradually distanced themselves from me, and it has now been years since I've had any consistent interaction with them...My two best friends--two people who I love dearly--have nearly completely ceased communication with me, and it has been the most painful experience I've ever known...I just wish I has anyone I was close to that I could talk and relate to
Pretty sure I'm the loneliest lover in all of chumpsville
