The more I watch Marble Hornets the more I realize how much of a little shit Jay is. Yes, Alex was already heavily under The Operator's control and acting like a freak, but Jay really stalked this man and broke into his house multiple times before Alex pulled the gun on him. Not to mention Jessica was only there because Jay kept calling her and mentioned her to Alex. Not saying Alex should have planned to kill her, too, but still. Sometimes I think we let Jay off a little too easy because he is our source of info for the majority of the series, but in reality this man is out there commiting crimes like everyone else. Maybe not murder but he is not innocent in the least..

I'm rewatching Marble Hornets (again, I know) but this time around I have become so overwhelming sad about Alex's situation. People hate on him (reasonably so) but I keep going back to his progression throughout the story - specifically the idea that he was a *normal* college student before coming into contact with The Operator. Throughout the series we see him mainly as a cold and paranoid person who will stop at nothing to get what he wants - arson, assault, murder - none of it is below him. At the end of things he is the antagonist, and there are so many reasons to root against him, and so many reasons to be glad he is killed.

There aren't a lot of chances we get to see Alex before he was corrupted by The Operator and it skews our perspective of the *real* him - the real Alex before he was forced to become the bad guy. It's evident from the beginning that he didn't choose this path - he wanted it to stop, he didn't want people to fall victim to The Operator - and yet he was driven into killing for The Operator's sake, even unbeknownst to him. He was always a victim, even when he thought he was in control. He thought he was the only one who could stop The Operator, to end the suffering for himself and everyone else, but from day one he was always just a pawn.

New Marble Hornets miniseries made me come back. I know I'm late but I'm too excited to not make a post.

Last night I stood under a streetlight near the river. It was cool out; it had just stopped raining. My watch read 10:26.

Suddenly, a kid on a bicycle rode up to me. His sweatshirt read "text me when you get home" in capital letters. We stood together for just a moment, having silently acknowledged each other, before he rode ahead into the darkness. I could hear someone lighting off fireworks in the distance. It felt like childhood.
