2018...choices to be made
New Year, New books, New reading challenges.
So I’ve decided to up my goal to 100 books this year (last year it was 80) on my Goodreads account - https://www.goodreads.com/user_challenges/10415753
I’m also wondering if I should incorporate reading challenges to read books that are out of my comfort zone, such as the New Adult one - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/19133838-2018-yearly-challenge.
But then that will mean 50 NA books and I did read a lot of NA books last year when I found the group and participated in their Read It & Review It segment.
I think the hardest decision is to pick the first book of the year to start reading. Any recommendations?
Challenge Your Reading Routine in 2018
‘Tis the season to be making New Year Resolutions! If you booknerds are looking to make a resolution to challenge your reading routine for the new year, you’re on the right page. To make the most out of your reading resolution, here are a few things to consider.
Genre
Life is too short to stick to one genre.

That’s why 2018 is the perfect time to start exploring other genres. Maybe you’ve tried contemporary young adult a few years back and didn’t like it. Just because you didn’t like Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh, it doesn’t mean you won’t like The Fault in Our Stars byJohn Green. You could discover new books under the same genre with a different kind of appeal. Try out different genres and you might even discover new ones that you’d love. In 2015, Mark Zuckerberg started a reading challenge, A Year of Books, where he’d pick a book from any genre to recommend his fans to read.
Number of books
It’s easy to get caught up with what you want to read and end up with an unrealistic list of books.

Ignore that ambitious urge to move on to the next book just to tick something off your list. And ignore peers who have finished their fifth book in a week. Instead, focus on reading what you enjoy, because you’ll never run out of steam with something you love. If you’re mostly busy during the week, a 50-book-per-week challenge(like the one below) might burn you out faster than you’d realise. Even Bill Gates does 50 books a year with his busy schedule.
Title
They say, don’t judge a book by its cover.

Books aren’t always as their titles suggest. Like how Animal Farm isn’t just about animals living in a farm. So, keep an open mind when you’re getting a book with an odd title, and check out what it really is about. Checking out the recommended reads (complemented with its synopsis) on the NLB Mobile app is a good start.
Why do we need a reading challenge for 2018?
Having a reading challenge for 2018 is the best reason for you to finish all those half-read or unread books from ages ago. If you’re not sure how to start listing your reading challenge, you could always get one done on Good Reads. Or you could try out one of these challenges that we’ve set for you. For those with a busy lifestyle, here’s a challenge that won’t kill your love for reading.
Or if you are still ambitious about reading 50 books a week, here’s a list.
Be careful, you don’t want to run out of steam before you’re even halfway through your reading journey. Try to take this challenge as an adventure of exploration, instead of a checklist waiting to be ticked off. Otherwise, you could end up getting ticked off.

In fact, you could fall into a pit of reading fatigue. It happens when reading becomes less enjoyable and relaxing, due to a combination of obligatory reading routines and competitiveness.
It usually starts like this:

And ends like this:

It’s normal for humans to be ambitious and competitive, even to the point of making challenges more difficult. Some even increase the number of books to complete each week, hoping to keep up with peers. While these feelings are normal, it diminishes your love for reading. Before you know it, you’re already on the verge of giving up mid-June.

Read because you love it. So, as long as you enjoy the process of reading and keep up at it, you’ll be fine :) Go forth and enjoy your reading challenge!
I wonder what 2018 will bring in terms of books. I managed over a 100 books in 2017
Shiny and new
I can’t wait until I unveil my new logo! So excited to have it almost ready to use for the start of a new chapter. Keep your eyes peeled for it!
I'm definitely excited for the reveal
#AdventuresOfPotAndKettle - Lesson 3
So yes, there has been a lack of adventures. But waking up to brave the morning rush is not my idea of a great start to my day.
Today, I did the "slightly after morning rush" train ride and was reading - as I so often do. Being a bookworm comes with its own set of problems; like getting off at a station thinking it is your stop.
Therefore I type this as I wait for the next train, cursing that I wasn't paying attention

Elizabeth Bennet: You know, there's something weird going on with your face.
Mr. Darcy: What?
Elizabeth Bennet: You're smiling. I didn't know you could do that.

November 1-30. The world needs your novel.
I have just logged on to the Nanowrimo website... to just see...Do I have enough courage to try again this year?
Too much time on my hands? Milestone to celebrate?
#AdventuresOfPotAndKettle - Day 2 /Lesson 2
I need a smaller bag... and lose weight. Then my required footprint in a packed train will be less and I might not feel like so much like a sardine in a can

#AdventuresOfPotAndKettle - day 1/lesson 1
Typing on a pack train is almost has hard as having a quiet dinner at McDonald's. And the passengers right next to your know exactly your plans for when you get off the train as they were all looking over your shoulder.
Rush hour transport adventures - Day 1
P: I'm on the bus and it's sooo early S: I'm on the bus too P: *this is weird*
And so starts a new series of posts (should I get up early enough daily)
Life reminders
