[dennis of @horrorosha comes skipping over.]
hey, i heard there's a fishy-fishy 'round here!
Mariner’s eyes snap up to glare at Dennis. I am not a fish. Why are you here.
heard that there was a little horror to investigate. i'm also bored. are you it? you look a bit scary, i guess. [he shrugs.]
They give a wry chuckle. I’m not the scary part. It’s what I do that scares people.
You seem well acquainted with fear. Mariner cocks their head to one side, and their nose twitches slightly like a dog searching for something.
you could say that. big fan of horror movies. [he chuckles and holds out his hand.] i'm dennis.
They just glare at his hand for a second. Either you’re a liar or you forgot to mention that there’s more than just movies. I know the scent of fear. You are covered with it.
[he grins.] i'm not lying about the movies. it's polite to introduce yourself back.
. . . Mariner.
You’re leaving something out. Just movies doesn’t account for that much. Their eyes narrow.
mariner. like a fishy.
well, i do partake in a bit of sport hunting here and there... if you catch my drift. bit of a scary game- the most dangerous game, if you will.
I’m not a fish, they snarl.
That would explain it. Mariner nods, and their hair sways strangely like it’s underwater. There’s someone I’ve been hunting for a while. There’s always some satisfaction both in the hunt and when you finally catch your prey, isn’t there?
sure you aren't.
anyways, i agree. i like the fear. and the anger, of course- they always get angry, in some way.
That’s an interesting one. Can you smell anger?
smelling it? no. but i can feel it- every killer worth their count is in tune with that kinda thing. they usually fight back. and everyone, i think, gets a bit angry when afraid, y'know?
[he's lying through his teeth, with a lazy, unassuming smile.]
it's no fun if there's no anger, no lashing out at you, a final attempt to escape the blade of a machete. otherwise, they're just practically rolling over and showing their belly.
anger's one of the survival tactics of the final girl in horror movies, y'know? fighting the killer.
True. They nod, their expression almost seeming to soften just a fraction.
But I will say, as much as I despise Fear, there is some level of satisfaction to watching them run. I personally enjoy the hunting and tracking more than the chase but there is some enjoyment of just . . . They do the ASL sign for “pounce.” you know?
hm, yeah. my mom's a bigger fan of the kill, but i just like toyin' with 'em, personally. makes me feel big n' bad.
Hm. I like both, though making them suffer first is quite nice.
It’s less feeling powerful and more knowing they’re getting their punishment.
punishment? [he raises an eyebrow.] what, so you're some kinda judgement killer?
Sure, whatever you wanna call it. Sometimes people do bad things and they’re in my way.
