So I had a patient dying on me last night so I called the family and told them he wasn’t doing well and asked if they wanted to FaceTime him from my phone to see him and say their goodbyes. I sat outside the room sobbing as his kids and grandkids all took turns talking to him and telling him how much they loved him. Be kind to one another, you never know what’s going on in someone else’s life.

YEP. Seeing this every day. Bosses putting signs around the facility saying “thank you, heroes” and “all that you do is amazing” and, okay, appreciation is good. But how much of this is really just about trying to give us those warm fuzzies so we don’t quit?

What the FUCK kind of GARBAGE is this? You’re not a fucking hero. You don’t make LIFE CHANGING DECISIONS ABOUT PATIENTS. you work in a nursing home/subacute rehab. Now I am in no way, shape, or form, saying that you’re not important. Bcuz we are. We take care of the elderly and teach people how to swallow, walk, manage their disease process....BUT YOURE NOT SAVING LIVES. yes you make a difference in them. But it’s not the same thing. Stop making yourself feel better about your crappy ass job and trying to spread “morale”. Quit spending our money of shitty ass useless signs and give me working equipment. Give me supplies. Give me a fucking break. Don’t give me this “you’re a hero” crap because I’m not, and you’re not. We matter and we make a difference, but you can not compare what is happening to nurses working in actual front line settings, to your 8 hour little old crazy lady land. And to the management, your cushy little 9-5 Monday-Friday never actually have to touch or get near a patient, fuck it you don’t even know their NAMES, job.

I’m literally torn. I want to stay in nj and be with my family and around my family. But I’ve always said I wanted to move out of state, somewhere peaceful and beautiful.
