This is my SageRecluse WHA AU, which was my passion project for the past few months :>

Each window/frame acts like a their personal canon event

Sage is a regular scientist who managed to crack the magic system on his own, while Recluse was born into a witch society, but was cast out due to an incident that almost put him on the same level as brimmed caps in the eyes of people

Recluse was offered two ways out - oblivion or becoming a cursed ruin guardian; he chose the ruin

Sage later gets trapped in the said ruin, and then chooses to stay with Recluse for a few years to Recluse’s utter morbidness (that’s what he tells himself, heh)

The ruin has an active curse on it that lures anyone within its effective radius in its center, because the original caster was a mad scientist who needed alive test subjects for their magic experiments

So, the keeper’s task is to keep the curse at bay through carefully maintained counter-spell

The hard part is that it needs to be reapplied almost every day because the damn curse eats it away - hence why TR's staff is woodcruor-tipped

So instead of going back and forth every day to redraw it, it was easier to station someone inside the barrier, making them the appointed Silver Ruin guard

Ofc that also means whoever is staying there would be staying there for life due to the constant erosion of the counter-spell

And living a life of solitude, too, because the counter spell is only able to elevate the curse's effect from one mind at a time when active. (Sage, being curiosity-incarnate that he is, later accidentally discovers another way to counter ruin’s effect, but currently, there is only one known to Recluse)

It isn't an elegant solution….

It can barely be called a solution at all, but it's a means to an end, because the curse must be contained, otherwise countless innocents would be lost to the curse's hungry maw
