I’m back home and have been since this morning. The surgery happened in the middle of the night. I am exhausted and sore and groggy, but OK and everything went well.

Appendicitis!

Started having abdominal pain yesterday afternoon. My wife tried to convince me to go to the ER last night and again this morning, and I declined.

By this afternoon it was too bad to ignore so I went, convinced that it wasn’t my appendix. Wrong.

Transported to another location by ambulance for surgery sometime soon, tonight or in the morning.

Robbie Williams came on the tv and I thought it was Johnny Knoxville and was confused about why he was singing ahead of the World Cup Final.

Jackson Heights for dinner tonight.

Dosas from Dosa Delight that were literally the width of the table, then we brought dessert home from Raja Sweets.

Forgot about this one from last night.

Went to see the giant Lego World Cup trophy and the giant Trionda placed inside the Atlas statue tonight.

The AQI is 200-ish right now. I’m out picking up dinner for my son and I, with the air and the sky and the sun like this, and I just walked past a neighborhood bar.

Presently, at one of this bar’s outdoor tables is two parents with two little kids, sitting outside, so the parents can drink.

I lost my job yesterday. I was told that they've decided to restructure my team and don't need a dedicated product manager anymore, and so I'm out.

A couple of things happened last week that had me wondering if this was coming, but I chalked it up to some light paranoia. Turns out...

It's unfortunate. I really liked working there. It was by far the nicest office I've ever worked in and the perks (which don't necessarily mean much but are very nice to have) were top notch. Catered breakfast and a daily stipend to buy lunch on office days, parties, tickets to sporting events, cold brew on tap, etc.

But the exit comes with a pretty long garden leave plus some other stuff, so we'll be good. And I get some time off for my troubles.

My team at work had a very fancy team dinner last night at a Korean BBQ spot located on the 39th floor of a building. Great views, great food.

But really the star of the show was this guy:

Someone at work shared this little World Cup themed game. You get a random team from a random year and pick one player, then repeat until you've filled a starting XI, and then it simulates a World Cup run where you try to go undefeated and win it all. My son and I have both been playing it a bunch since the World Cup began.
