At the Butterfly Mansion, Sabito recovers from his injuries to find Giyuu having sat vigil for weeks. They are summoned to the Master to await the fate of their careers in the Corps.
Sabito settled against the pillows, wincing just a little with the shift in posture, now that his wounds had caught up with him. Giyuu shifted too, but stopped when Sabito took gentle hold of his hand and tugged him a little.
"You'll stay?" He murmured.
Giyuu looked at him for a long moment. Even after a brush with death he was glowing, golden and handsome as ever. Befitting of the golden clasps of the hashira he was no doubt about to receive when they met with The Master. Compared to himself, the distance between them had never felt greater. "Of course." He said.
Sabito pulled the blanket over them both and, despite being the injured one, beckoned Giyuu to lay against his chest. Giyuu obeyed but kept his eyes open, staring at the bandages beneath Sabito's robe. He moved his hand to rest over one of them and remembered the arrow that had punctured this spot, this skin. Sabito must've noticed he was still awake and fretting.
"Giyuu." He called softly. Giyuu gazed up at him. "I'll share." He said. Giyuu frowned until Sabito went on. "We can both be Hashira, I don't care."
Giyuu smiled sadly. "Go to sleep, Sabito. You're talking nonsense."
"Am not." Sabito argued. "Don't you remember what we said? Together, always." Giyuu didn't speak, so Sabito continued instead. "So let's be Hashira together."
"We'll still be together." Giyuu lied. He pulled Sabito closer, like he was already losing him.
Sabito reached down and tipped Giyuu's chin up, so he could look at him.
"I mean it." He'd give Giyuu anything. Anything that was his was really Giyuu's anyway. His title. His heart.
Giyuu rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright. Now go to sleep. You're not thinking straight."
Sabito released Giyuu's face and pulled his arms around his shoulders instead. He had to concede at least that point. It seemed these days he could very rarely think straight around Giyuu. All he could think of was the scent of his hair, the smooth glide of his skin against his own. He'd chuck his golden Hashira clasps onto the pacific if it meant keeping Giyuu beside him.
