Elizabeth of York and Jasper Tudor have a Conversation.
Elizabeth was sitting alone in the grand hall watching the King dance with her Aunt Katherine "Princess," Elizabeth heard a gruff voice say, she looked behind her to see her Uncle by marriage, The Duke of Bedford "Your Grace, please sit and have some wine." Jasper pulled out the seat next to her and sat down. "How are you enjoying Christmas at court Princess, is it as grand as your fathers?" Jasper asked kindly, Elizabeth had heard the stories she knew her father had Owen Tudor executed on the battlefield, how can he so casually ask about her father when he is the reason his father is gone from this world?. "It is good Your Grace, I was at court last Christmas but it was very meek and wasn’t as lively as this." They fell into silence, "Your Grace may I ask you a personal question?" Elizabeth asked tentatively "it depends on the content Your Highness, if it is something that is a secret I cannot keep anything from my King, but if it is something else I will do my best to answer it." Jasper was now intrigued as to what the Yorkist Heir had to ask, Elizabeth took a deep breath and said "Your Grace, please forgive me but how can you be so nice to me when my father killed yours. If it was the other way around I don’t know if I could be civil to you." Elizabeth looked at her glass of wine and was lost in deep thought. Jasper was taken aback by the question but knew his answer. "No one should pay for their parents sins Princess, yes I will always hold The old king responsible for my father's death but it was war, my lady, a war where cousins fought cousins and your father was avenging his father and brother.Margaret what she did was unacceptable and even my father a loyal supporter of Margaret was disgusted by what she did. I don’t begrudge your father for the Princess but how I wish that he could be here now to see this, a Tudor on the throne of England." Jasper looked wistful.
"Thank you my lord, for not holding it against me I don’t think I would have been able to have the Kings family as an enemy I think I have enough of those without adding relatives into the fray." Elizabeth looked at him and smiled "Princess you remind me of your father not only in looks but in some of the things you do, I remember him on the battlefield, so I would not like to go against you, Princess for I fear you may be just as fearsome." Jasper smiled then realised the dance had finished and started clapping, Elizabeth joined in and Henry started walking over seeing his beloved Uncle and betrothed chatting with their heads together. "Is everything OK Princess Elizabeth, my uncle isn't boring you is he?" Jasper and Elizabeth laughed "No your Majesty we were just talking of the war just passed and our fathers, sir It was far from boring." Elizabeth smiled at Jasper then Henry.
"Remember what I said Princess no one should be punished for their parents sins," clapping him hands together "You are young, Henry ask this lovely young lady to dance before she is forced to endure my dancing." They all laughed, Henry held his hand out "shall we?" Elizabeth smiled up at him, "of course, your Majesty." Elizabeth stood up just as she was walking away she turned back to face Jasper "Thank you Your Grace." They shared a smile then the music started for the next song.
