The tears on Peterโs face were enough to send James into another fit of them. He choked on a sob, letting the tears flow freely down his face. After all, he couldnโt stop them anymore, and if anyone cared, well they could bloody well fuck off, in his opinion. He mightโve laughed at Peterโs question, but instead it came out like a bark. Everything felt so off, and James didnโt know quite how to put life back together again.ย โWell, it means a lot, anyway,โ he said, softly.ย โI know we havenโt seen each other as much recently and Iโฆโ James choked back another bout of tears and sniffled instead.ย โIโve missed you. Itโs so very good to see youโโ And the tears that he had tried to keep at bay fell on his cheeks again. James sat down in the nearest seat, head falling into his hands as he tried to pull himself together. Just for the moment. Just for five minutes. James would take five minutes of normalcy again.
Peter hated this, hated seeing his friend so upset. Hated knowing he was part of the reason his friend was so upset. Hated that he was the worldโs worst friend that couldnโt do one damn thing right. He wished he could take away Jamesโ pain, but he couldnโt. All he could do was just stand there and watch him cry, which only made him tear up more. โShit,โ he muttered under his breath. Wiping at his eyes with the sleeve of his sweatshirt, he closer to his friend, dragging another chair closer so he could sit next to him. Then he placed one hand on Jamesโ shoulder and rubbed circles to try to offer some kind of comfort.ย โI missed you too,โ he replied with a sniffle, and hell did he mean it. He missed James. He missed Sirius. He missed Remus. He missed Lily. He missed all of them. And they didnโt hate him yet.ย โIโm here now and Iโm not- Iโm not going anywhere,โ he promised. Not until James decided he didnโt want anything to do with him.
