Lightmatter officially unveiled Guide DR, the industry’s first liquid-cooled laser NIC that quadruples fiber bandwidth density. Designed for OCP compatibility, the new in-chassis light engine eliminates the faceplate bottleneck, powering up to 51.2 Tbps of optical bandwidth for AI scale-up.
The laser is to optical interconnect what batteries are to EVs. The industry’s “power wall” is real, and CPO lasers need a new scaling engine. Guide DR, is the industry’s first liquid-cooled laser NIC, offering 4X the rack density of conventional pluggable lasers.
To power the CPO bandwidth and rack density required to train and use frontier AI models, they’ve moved the external light source from the faceplate into the chassis, leveraging the existing liquid cooling infrastructure.

CEO Patrick Bowen said they are bringing in talent across all levels to commercialize photonic AI at scale.
The leader in photonic AI chip technology, Neurophos, has nearly tripled in headcount since closing its $110M Series A round in January 2026. In less than six months, the company has grown by nearly 3x — a trajectory that reflects both the importance and the opportunity for next-generation AI compute infrastructure.
The latest wave of hires brings deep industry experience to Neurophos across multiple engineering disciplines, with leaders joining from companies including NVIDIA, Meta, Qualcomm, Intel, Infinera, Luminar, and Magic Leap.
