Im writing a oneshot for the aftermath of that, because there’s a possibility he got treatment offscreen. It holds some canon divergence. May become an entire AU. Dunno yet. But as much as I love Smokescreen, he NEEDS TO SUFFER!!!!

if it were the case that you attack the thing ya hate most, I think smokescreen would attack himself BUT not exactly for the reason your thinking

a lot of the time the things you hate and the things you get mad at are things you don’t/can’t understand. And understanding the other side is a hard thing to do, especially if it’s something completely opposite of you like in megatrons case of murdering millions of innocents. That ain’t really something you can understand yourself doing so it confuses you and so you back away and end up just being frustrated and angry at him. Frankly the healthier option here is the acceptance option, where if you can’t understand you accept and hope for better or simply compromise in some way, something like that.

In smokescreens case, I think he’s able to understand the other side more. While sure he doesn’t have to agree with it, but he understands it, knowing why Megatron made the actions he did and moving on from there or something. He’s able to put himself in lots of other shoes where most others can’t bring themselves to. Why I think this distinction is important is because i think he probably has much less understanding of himself. Hoping he’ll be something in the future(destiny) rather than simply “a mech existing~” and whatnot. If that makes sense. So he’s confused about himself more than he is about others, which I feel like would lead to a similar line of processing as hate and anger and etc etc

in comparison the acceptance route I think is more like Optimus, where he’d be like smokescreen where he’d be more likely to attack himself, but he doesn’t need to understand something to care in some way for it. Probably just comes with experience/older wisdom years that smokescreen don’t got yet. But it means sure he can feel guilty and sad and mad at himself sometimes, but he… I unno how to say it…. Cares for himself as much as he would anyone else(with a little leeway).

- Smokescreen used to bite. It would have definitely helped in the mythril sea in your au! Most bots don’t expect you to BITE them and you kinda HAVE to fight dirty if you want to live. He doesn’t do it as much anymore, but there definitely may have been some instances of him biting a con after they put their servos a BIT too close to his face for his liking.

- Smokescreen is REALLY flexible. Idk he just gives off the vibes of someone who could do the splits with ease.

- He 100% has a sweet tooth. I feel like in your AU Chromia would try her HARDEST to get him a sweet treat on occasion, so he often associates sweets with his sister or general safety/happiness.

- There were PLENTY of times post war he woke up screaming and felt insanely guilty if he woke someone up.

- He enjoys going on long night walks, and sometimes when he couldn’t sleep on his early-joining-‘team’-prime-days he scouted the area.

1: If anyone in TFP was to meet the literal definition of ankle-biter, it's definitely Smokescreen. He just has the aura of someone who used to bite anything when he was teething, and in the Mithril Sea, whatever could be used as a weapon was to be used for defense/offense, no matter how unhinged or left-field it was.

2: I mean, just look at the kicks and spins he's pulled off in the show. I wouldn't be surprised to see him doing Jean-Claude Van Damme level splits. (I'm now picturing Optimus and Ultra Magnus helping him out with that last one, lol.)

3: Yes. Just yes. Chromia would absolutely have gotten Smokescreen any kind of sweet she could find and afford (she would only resort to stealing in extreme measures as she wanted to set a good example for him, but some long days he needed the candy - and she'd do anything to make sure the smile stayed on his face.) Smokescreen certainly associates the sweets and the tastes/smells of them with Chromia, home, and joy. I think their guardians would also save up some money for some sweets for them, but Chromia had enough left over from her jobs that she could buy some herself.

4: That sounds accurate tbh. I mean between what he went through from the Decepticons, never mind what happened to him pre-War (if you go by either my AU or the fact that he's not even batting an eye at Bulkhead smacking the Apex Armor out of his hands with his mace), then Smokescreen's bound to have so nasty nightmares/terrors.

5: I can 100% see that! It probably has something to do with the peacefulness of the night mixed with (if he could sneak outside safely) lack of light pollution making the night sky a source of solace for him. It's like being back home, but without the threat of getting mugged or killed. I see the Mithril Sea as having towering buildings and dim-to-moderately high lights, likely neon, so seeing the stars with no light pollution would be awe-inspiring to Smokescreen even if it hurts to not recognize the constellations.

In general with your au, Chromia and the others(but mainly Chromia because THATS HER BROTHER THAT SHE BASICALLY RAISED) must have been absolutely DESTROYED by the idea that Smokescreen had died. I feel like at least ONE of the Elite Guard/Mythril gang would be in ‘denial’/think that it was a fluke somehow.

In the Mythril-on-earth mini-au, how would they have reacted to Smokescreen falling to earth?(Would he have fallen to earth earlier for some reason?) I imagine Red-Alert would IMMEDIATELY snatch him away for like. 500 different tests and questions after everyone else crushes him in hugs. Smokey would be confused before absolute horror would follow.

They would also probably find the omega key much earlier(w/o knowing what they were because Optimus wasn’t on earth and no one could grab the star saber unless team prime arrives around the time Smokescreen arrived in Prime) because Red-Alert doesn’t participate in MEDICAL MALPRACTICE.

Chromia would be BESIDE HERSELF with pure RAGE at Alpha Trion

Would Smokescreen still be nabbed by the Decepticons after they decipher the omega-key locations and find smokescreen has(had, in this case) the last key? Likely at a different time, no? As he most likely wouldn’t have stormed out because they aren’t as terrible as team prime(the bar is in hell)

..oh that just gave me an idea. Smokescreen contacts the others during what was supposed to be a regular patrol telling them that he’s fighting Soundwave(Theoretically he could be able to hold his own better since he was on alert, unlike how he was in the main series) before he just loses ALL communications with them after a VERY loud noise and possibly his own cut off screaming.

How terrifying would that be? Also the fact that the CPP would likely be for nothing if they don’t have any idea on what the keys are for and Smokescren would have to go through that for NO REASON and he may-or-may-not be tortured by the Decepticons for the location of the last omega key because he wouldn’t have it in his chest at that point.

Oh wow, that's a good question.

For one, if the Mithril Sea-Elite Guard squad as a whole heard that Smokescreen "died", they'd all be in denial. They wouldn't be able to wrap their heads around how Smokescreen would have died, especially since, while the Hall of Records was a "boring" post, it was at least safe (this in particular would be Chromia's reasoning, and she'd probably be the first to get the others together and hold on to hope by her fingertips that her little brother - the lucky little genius of a boy from the Mithril Sea she raised - is alive and that something else happened to him.)

So, while I like imagining Smokescreen's pod falling to Earth earlier - I understand light years and years in other galaxies don't align with that of Earth - if we imagine that Smokescreen had still been stationed at the Hall of Records, then yes he would have arrived later in correlation to space-time differing from Earth's time. He also would've gotten nearly hugged to death, and caught up on things by Chromia and Hound as Red Alert checked him over for injury and illness. Maybe inoculating him to some diseases native to anyone newly arrived to Earth as well, idk.

Then all heck would have broken loose when they found the Omega Key in his body.

First it would be a general "what the PIT is that?!" because it's a foreign object in his body, then Red Alert would likely be swearing up a storm at the scars and placement of the Key. The procedure would likely be done in tandem with use of the Phase Shifter (canonically it would be here, and if not, it's here for the purposes of this what-if), and Chromia and Hound would be taking turns making sure Smokescreen's off his feet until Red Alert is certain his body has healed. Meanwhile the questioning that had been going on escalates, and between Smokescreen's own remembrances, recounting, and deductions as well as Chromia's, they'd realize that Alpha Trion put it there.

Chromia would be seething over this, old memories making her think it was some kind of sick joke before her rationality (as well as Smokescreen's insistence) made her realize it must be something important, because as "cooky" as he was, why in the Pits of Kaon would Alpha Trion put something so haphazardly into his bodyguard's body? (That doesn't negate the fury Chromia is feeling, or the fact that she still wants to strangle the old 'Bot before smelting him for parts, but Smokescreen needs her more right now, so thoughts of vengeance will be put on the back burner until a later time.)

Well, the Decepticons would certainly think that Smokescreen still has it, and the Mithril Sea-Elite Guard squad would probably try and keep Smokescreen with at least one of them nearly at all times until they got the other keys. Or, in order to nix the possibility of Smokescreen getting carved open for the Key, they'd show it off once as a show of force/"you want the Keys? We got one in our favor, we'll get the other three." Now, this would likely be a bad idea still because it'd be showing their hand in terms of both what they have in their possession while also displaying particular care for Smokescreen, which would mark him in the future.

Which, by extension, if (as I believe you may be thinking) you want to write an angst fic, that would be grounds for Smokescreen vs Soundwave and a potential capture of our favorite Elite Guardsman. I was just discussing this with some friends, and I think Smokescreen would fare pretty well against Soundwave; I can't link to it currently, but you should be able to find the discussion underneath #tfp soundwave on my blog, so that should give you an idea of a battle between them.

Yeah that'd get ugly in a hurry. Supposing they know how many Keys there are, but not their purpose, then Smokescreen would go through all that for, essentially, nothing (which he would find worthwhile while Chromia, Hound, and Red Alert would be fuming and worried for him once they got him back.) Torture would definitely be something they'd try, so....fun (NOT).
