The Peripantheon Cycle

Gabriel Brandt, the main character of the second Peri Book (one of, at least). Favourite Food: Khatta Meetha Karela - preferably with Saag. Gabe prefers bitter, sour and spicy foods in general, and likes unusual flavor combinations. Doesn't like sweets, and dislikes mild food as well as anything texturally with hard bits in it. Favourite Season: Autumn. Winter is too cold, but Autumn lets him bundle up and has crunchy leaves. He can't enjoy the colours himself, but he loves the way cold air smells and the excuse for Ariel to carry him to 'warm him up'. Favourite Texture: Soft fur textures, as well as cottons. Hates leathers. Specific answer would be Ariel's fur in particular - finds it comforting. Fun Ostian trivia! Much, much shorter than the Vertosan one, admittedly. Ostian clothing tends to feature a lot of heavy fabrics and multiple layers due to how much of the year in the Canopy is encompassed by cold weather. They generally wear pants, and often can be seen with gloves and scarves when outside. Most fabrics are made using plant fibers, they don’t have access to much metal and most things like buttons are made using materials like compressed bamboo (which while not native to the region is still easily procurable due to the Ostian population of Sylvans who can grow it at will when needed).

Favourite Food - Apricots, though plums are a close second. Michael likes stone fruit in general, and even dried apricots are enough to delight him as a treat. Favourite Season - Summer! Loves the warm weather and watching the gardens flourish. Growing up in Vertos with exceptionally mild winters and scorching summers has left him with a particular aversion to the cold, making Winter his least favourite season. Favourite Colour - Pastel pink when young, Aether blue as an adult. Michael tends to wear a pastel pallet in general, lots of bright but gentle colours; this is also a common trend in Vertosan religious clothing.

Fun Vertosan trivia! In Vertos it is common to wear many layers of light fabrics. There is a cultural taboo around showing skin, generally only the face, hands and ankles are considered appropriate. There is no connection between gender presentation and clothing, though there is a strong connection between the type of clothing you wear and your role within Vertosan society.

(For instance, the only factions in Vertos that wear pants are associated with physical activity. Soldiers, Paladins, riders, farmers, builders, etc. Generally the only group that wears them all the time are Paladins, as it is considered a sign that someone is currently working to be wearing them - robes are preferred over pants for polite company.)

Pastels are common in the Religious caste as well as scholars, teachers and medical professionals. Deeply coloured dyes are generally associated with Paladins, soldiers and social servant positions. Merchants, workers and artisans tend to wear bright colours, and frequently feature embroidery. Children and students wear white, often with an accent sash indicating the role of their family or their intended career path.

While there is obviously no penalty for breaking these conventions, it is uncommon to due so. A notable exception being that metal armor and charmed leather are reserved for those associated with House D’Argent, as they are a limited resource - therefore carrying a penalty for possession if unaffiliated.

Michael, as part for the Religious caste, wears pastels. They are considered an artisan as well, thus he tends to accent with bright colours. The mix and matching of so many colours as he does, however, is just a quirk of his and not actually the norm.

There are numerous spoilers in this image and I will likely be removing it from Tumblr at a later date. As it stands, all I’ll say is that Ariel is allergic to shirt and pants, and that the moment he is safe inside his home he avoids them at all costs. Gabe has no opinions on this.

Gabe is a short, scrawny chronically ill waif of a man, who happens to be dating an abnormally large Lycan. Ariel is actually smaller here than he should be, I think, he’s around 9 feet tall compared to Gabe’s diminutive height of 5′2″.

I also didn’t add all of Gabe’s scars here, because I lost interest in finishing the picture (which is also why everything is blue) - he technically also has scar tissue on his shoulders and back, and one of his arms. You wouldn’t be able to see the damage on the back and on his right thigh, but it is there.

Gabriel Brandt and his sister, Gabrielle Brandt. One is a functional Reyva type Lycan (The vulpine based family of shifters), and as such towers over her much less functional brother. She learned very early on that if Gabe was being difficult or uncooperative she could just... pick him up and go. He was distinctly less pleased by this realization.

Gabe dresses in a much more Ostian fashion, though he doesn’t really do well with picking out colours due to his being legally blind by this point - he tends to pick fabrics by what textures feel nice and avoids any with pronounced seams. Ostian clothing is designed for colder weather, and generally fits more close to the body, they are also big on pants, gloves and boots. Gabe has additional reasons to be wearing gloves, but shhh. We don’t talk about that.

Gabriel Brandt and Pebbles the Mythra. Pebbles normally has moss, flowers and stone-like bristled fur, but this was drawn before that was decided. Honestly I keep shifting around design elements a bit too often so a lot of my art ends up out of date shortly after finishing it.
