Hive is an Institute where the world's most renowned villains receive their education.

Otto is our darling main character in this story. He has white spiky hair and blue eyes.

So! Otto Malpense was left at the door stop of an orphanage right from when he was an infant, with only his name being the only thing to identify him.

Otto was terrifyingly intelligent from a really young age. He taught himself how to read and write at the age of 3. He could speak fluent English at 5, that kinda stuff. It's like he just absorbs the knowledge straight out of whatever material he's reading and it just stays in his brain forever.

He also used a bunch of scrap metal to make gadgets for himself that he'd entertain and experiment with. Mind you this guy is like 6 here!😭

So obviously, Otto was way far ahead compared to the rest of the kids in his orphanage and saw no need to go to public school since he already knew everything. So he made a deal with the owner and caretaker of the orphanage that she would pretend to be his tutor(doing so would make it seem like she's an incredibly smart person and that would bring traction to her and it kinda makes her a lot of money? It does surprisingly.) and Otto would get to mess around with his gadgets in the attic undisturbed. It was a deal.

Otto's smartness brought a lot of money to the orphanage and they got to renovate drastically from the old run down place it was before. All while Otto pulled the strings from behind.

Now Otto isn't necessarily a bad person. He just cares more about himself and what benefits him in an ordeal.(okay, it's not looking good for him) He kinda has a "I'm smarter than you" kinda energy to him which he IS VERY smart but like you know.

Which leads us here! The prime minister of London(where he lives) wants to shut down the orphanage to like build a mall?(probably not what was in the book but something along those lines)

Otto is rightfully pissed because this is his lair- I mean home. Where else his he supposed to go? He's already invested to much into the orphanage he can't give up on it now. This guy is like 12 here.

So! He comes up with a plan. He tells the owner of the orphanage that he'll be off for a few days to fix the issue of the orphanage shutting down which she is very grateful for.

Otto books a hotel where prior to this he had unleashed a small mechanical spider into a sewer drain near where the prime minister was about to make a speech before retreating back to the hotel. He waits until the time is just right and with his modified computer he manoeuvres the spider to bite down on a wire connecting the prime ministers glasses to a network.

Now most people who give speeches wear glasses that display text for them so they don't mess up. Otto basically hacked that network and send a nanosecond code of data that basically brainwashed the prime minister before inputting his own code for what the prime minister should say.

The prime minister basically insults everybody in the room on live television. Sating they only exist to fill his pockets, that their stupid and more.

Otto is laughing his ass off.

Before he basically makes the prime minister unbuckle his pants and reveal ON LIVE TV his white boxers with red hearts on them!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.

The news reporters are so confused...

Otto is having the time of his life. After he's calmed down from his laughing fit, he packs up his things to go back to the orphanage. He's about to head out the door, imagining the cake that the owner has probably made for his arrival...

Before he proceeds to get shoot in the head.

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Otto wakes up strapped on a helicopter thousands of feet above the water. He has the worst headache of his life.(no injury, don't worry) He looks to the side and notices another person next to him who was already awake. This is Wing. He's been awake for an hour now. Wing was also shoot and kidnapped by Hive and both of them have no idea where they are going.

Soon a volcano comes into view and the helicopter descends into it. It turns out that it's actually where Hive is located! Under this volcano(Which is ACTIVE btw. The lava was just re-routed elsewhere and is being used to power the school.)

So the school is practically underground.

Basically they are soon given orientation of the school.

To get into H.I.V.E, someone needs to recommend you into the school or you have potential to become a villain. Whether it's through a family member or a scholarship(outside person). Hive then monitors you to know whether or not your worthy to become a villain. Once they've made their assessment, they kidnap you.

It's important that the candidate doesn't know that they are even being recruited for Hive because of a previous incident where a student leaked the location and they had to move away from the mainland and onto an island in the middle of nowhere.

Hive is basically an off shoot of a bigger villain organization called G.L.O.V.E.(Global League Of Villainous Enterprises.)

Glove operatives send their kids to Hive where they'll be trained to become future villains. And trust me, there is no escape from Hive.

All of this information is given by our beloved headmaster! Dr Nero.

Hive has 4 streams:

Alpha stream, they wear a black jumpsuit.Think of it as the Class 1 A of this universe. This is where future overlords are raised.

Henchmen stream, basically if your strong fighter and possibly make a good subordinate, you go here. They wear a blue jumpsuit.

Political stream, future politicians. I have nothing more to say. They wear a grey jumpsuit.

And last but not least, the Tech stream, they wear a white jumpsuit. They're kinda responsible for all the high tech machinery going on.

Let me also introduce to you our main characters!

Wing: He's Otto's Best friend. He has long black hair that is usually tied back with brown eyes. He has a stoic personality but very quickly warms up to his friends with his odd sense of humor.

He was brought to HIVE on recommendation of his father which shocks him.

He's very good at martial arts.

Shelby: Shelby has blond hair that is usually packed in a pony tail with blue eyes.

At first, she acts like a rich girl who just got taken away from the life of comfort of her parents, kinda like spoilt princess gacha life character vibes. But Otto can literally tell that this is all a persona and that she's hiding something.

She gets called out by one of the teachers(Ms Leon) about how she's actually a mastermind jewel thief who has never once been caught nor detected by the banks and museums she steals from.She quite literally comes from a family of thieves.

Shelby is angry that her cover has been blown and drops the whole spoilt princess act. She's actually quite sarcastic and snarky and the jokester of the group. Otto recruited Shelby into the escape plan since she can literally steal anything.

Laura: She has short curly red hair, green eyes(I hope, I keep forgetting people's eye colours!) and freckles and a Scottish accent.

Her family kinda had no choice but to give her up to hive or else she would have literally been arrested by the US army.

So! Laura suspects that some of her classmates/ friends might be talking crap about her behind her back. So, she does what any teenager does and uses USA military grade Spyware to hack into her classmates phones and see their conversations. She said she was just borrowing it and that she covered her tracks! Yeah no...if hive hadn't taken her, she'd probably be in maximum security prison now.

She's a sweet girl and is actually incredibly amazing with computers and tech. She can't match up to whatever the hell Otto has going on but she can pull her own weight pretty good.

Nigel Darkdoom: He is the son of Diablous Darkdoom. He's bald(it runs in the family, his father is too)and wears glasses. I think he has dark brown eyes? He's very shy and feels pressured to live up to his fathers reputation.

Nigel didn't even know his father was a villain, let alone a top operator in GLOVE(Global League Of Villainous Enterprises) not to mention his father is dead(foreshadowing)so it's a lot of pressure on this boy. He really adores biology, more specifically plants!(foreshadowing)

Franz: Franz is a German boy with short blond hair. He's chubby and a lovely friend to Nigel since they are roommates. He's SCARILY good with guns and has a very precise aim. He's also really good in financial politics.

Lucy: (Introduced in book 4) She has black long hair and is quite shy. She was brought to H.I.V.E to keep her safe later in the books after an incident involving her grandmother. She has the ability to mind control people which runs in her family.

So! Otto and Wing are put in the Alpha stream. Wing was put here by his father(which surprises him because his father is kinda absent in his life) and Otto is here on scholarship.

Otto is heavily intimidated by Nero. It scares him seeing someone that can match him on his level.

So Otto desperately wants to leave, so he devises a plan with Wing(who is his roommate surprise) and a few other students of the Alpha stream.

Also Wing is insanely good at hand to hand combat and hates using weapons of any kind. He had to be sedated 3 times before they kidnapped him.

Fun fact: In a scene where Otto and Wing got into a fight, Otto throws a metal pipe to Wing for him to fight with and use, but it proceeds to hit Wing straight in the head and knock him out cold. Otto is incredibly smart but my man cannot fight to save his life😭.

Last but not least, it's revealed that the person who sponsored Otto is non other than the leader of GLOVE himself, Number One.

Nero is surprised to learn this as Number One specifically tells him that no harm must come to Otto Malpense unless he wants to be severely dealt with.

So in order to keep Otto safe as per Number One's orders, Nero deploys Raven, his personal assassin and bodyguard to watch over him. Raven is a Russian woman with black(I hope I'm remembering that right) short hair and blue eyes. She's highly trained in her art.

(How many people in this school got blue eyes!!😭😭😭😭 Some of you guys are getting your blue eye privileges revoked!!)

So before I forget, I need to introduce someone to you!

Hivemind!

He's the schools system Ai that basically keeps track of the entire school. He gave the Alpha stream their uniforms, and you can basically ask him any question about the school(that he's authorized to give answers too.)

So in a scene in a book, Otto asks hivemind if he's happy here. Hivemind does not respond instantly but later in the book he says he isn't.

(Hive mind is basically a floating wireframe head with blue eyes)(Headcanon territory but I'm sure he has white hair, I just imagine that hair is long like fiber optic wires)

So Otto and Wing begin their escape plan with the help of Shelby and Laura.

Otto was contemplating about bringing Nigel along but due to his timid nature, decided against it.

Before they left though, Otto and Wing visit Nigel in the Botanical Garden(Imagine a huge glass dome underground that has a lot of greenery in it.)

There they see Nigel attending to his latest project. Can you guess what? It's a carnivorous venus fly trap that can act on its own will! Her name is Violet by the way! Wing is creeped out by the plant since it actively moves towards the flies when Nigel holds them near its mouth. I'm sure absolutely nothing will go wrong here!

So onto the escape plan. Every night, Hive students change out of their uniforms(which they practically live in) into their nightwear. They put the uniform in the closet, and the next morning a clean and fresh uniform arrives! Nobody enters the room when this happens so it has to be the closets.

They escape through the closets. Through a ventilation shaft, and soon to their final destination. A submarine!

Otto had got a small glimpse of a map of H.I.V.E in one of his classes with his erratic science teacher.(Professor Pike! Old guy but there is never a moment this man is not lost in his science)

He memorized it instantly and is using it to try and get to a submarine and get them out of here!

But! They need to access some high level clearance section that they had not initially prepared for. They bring in hivemind!

He's very reluctant to do so, since this is going against his code. Otto tells him about how he was unhappy here and Laura convinces hivemind that they'll escapes with him. So! Hivemind gives them a copy of their system in a form of a tablet, gives them the high level access, and also temporarily shuts down some parts of the school to make escape easier.

During this shutdown, the feeding tube connected to Violet over feeds her, causing her to grow exponentially! And let's just say, she has a taste for human flesh now...

So onto Otto and his gang! They open the door to the submarine. The chance to escape is right behind it!

When Suddenly...

The doors open to Dr Nero sitting on his chair, on leg crossed over the other with a smug expression on his face.

The gang is flabbergasted. Their plan had failed.

You see Nero already knew they were planning an escape. Multiple students before them had tried, and failed so it was practically expected by the staff of the school that the possibility of the new students planning an escape plan was imminent.

And Raven was also watching Otto from the shadows so...

Anywho, Nero says the only thing he wasn't expecting was the inclusion of hivemind. That he did not prepare for. He takes the tablet from Laura. He says he will have Professor Pike reprogram hivemind since this is quite unexpected.

Nero soon begins to monolog to the students:

Honestly, even if you managed to escape this island, do you seriously want to go back to the lives you had before here?

Wing, you have an absent father and practically live by yourself in your mansion(excluding bodyguards and servants)

Shelby, do you seriously want to return to a life of petty crime?

Laura, girl your literally wanted by the US army, who are you returning too?

And Otto, sweet sweet Otto. So you really want to return back to the orphanage and continue your life there? Really?

Hive has more opportunities than you could ever imagine. Take them.

So the gang is shocked and bummed having been caught. Nero leads them back to their room until a security alert happens due to Violet.

I'm not good at explaining fight scenes...

Violet is causing havoc across the school and when Nero learns it's Nigel he sighs in exhaustion and says "of course". Darkdoom.

They need something from a lab, so Otto and Raven set out to retrieve it. Raven has to block out the vines with her katanas so Otto is left to get the device. A grappling hook.

In the chaos, Nero gets hit by one of the vines which tears his suit to reveal a yang pendant(black) . Wing, who was with him at the time is beyond shocked. You see he has a yin(white pendant) which his mother gave to him before she passed away of unknown circumstances. So he's beyond confused as to how Nero has it.

Otto manages to take down the big plant monster with the grappling hook by throwing a bomb at it's weak spot.

The day is saved, yippee! Nero thanks Otto before Raven escorts Nero to a med bay.

Otto sees this as an opportunity to escape so he leads Wing down to were the helicopters are. The area is very vacant due to the recent mishap that occurred. Otto is about to get on, but Wing makes a statement.

He says he can't leave the island until he discovers why Nero has his mother's pendant. Otto is very reluctant, but caves in and promises to help Wing with this issue. (You see, he does care!)

(Also after reading more of the books, THANK GOODNESS Otto didn't fly that helicopter. He sucks ASS at flying helicopters if all the virtual reality tests are anything to go by.)

Miscellaneous:

Nigel is shocked that Violet managed to grow that big.

The teachers include:

Contessa: She can mind control people. She's Lucy's grandmother! She was later revealed to be a traitor to HIVE but she made the ultimate decision to sacrifice herself to save the school once she realized this wasn't what she wanted.

General Francisco: He's in charge of all things combat. Also heavily in charge of the henchman stream.

Professor Pike: Resident mad and eccentric scientist. May come off as scatter brained but he actually has a very sharp eye.

Ms Leon: She's a cat. You see, she underwent an experiment with Professor Pike to try and increase her agility since she teaches stealth and evasion, but it transfers her consciousness into her cat and vice versa. She's also the teacher that called Shelby out on her bluff.

I forgot the name of the teacher in the Botanical garden...

Raven has special defence training with Wing.

Hivemind gets rebooted in book two and becomes practically emotionless.(🥲)(He comes back!)
