So, me and @beebrainedstudios were talking about wing's scars and why they were never explained. I listed a few ideas and was given one that was perfect
Street fighting.
It explains why he's so confident and cocky about his skills, and thinks he's better than adults. It also fits very well considering he had no one to watch him when he was at home most of the time
Also just imagine how funny it would be when his friends found out. They'd lose their minds
Yes! Don’t get me wrong, I like the more grounded nature of the series and how most of the powers are experimentation-based, but you can see the remnants of the superhero idea in it and they’re so interesting. I really feel like Cypher was supposed to be tied to that idea somehow given his outfit and the whole “secret identity” thing + his goal technically being saving the world at any cost. Same with H.O.P.E., I feel like they either used to be some sort of anti-powers initiative or some sort of hero team based on their vibes. The series could’ve been really interesting with a superhero twist!
It's late and I can't sleep so I now have the confidence to post this au.
Au where Otto wasn't given up to an orphanage but instead was raised by Overlord in some secret lair.
For this au, Overlord has to be a semi(??????) Good parent. Still an evil ai though.
So before Overlord was launched, Wings mom put a failsafe code in him that gave him the ability to care for only those he could deem worthy enough. For a maniacal machine like him? Yeah, not a lot of people.
Something something, need to build a successor. Something something, hates(?) the fact he cares but cannot bring himself to destroy Otto so he just locks him away in a submarine base deep in the ocean so nobody can discover this weakness of his. That's where Otto's been living ever since.

(I wrote this a while ago btw! Like while I was still in book 4 or 5)
Like, instead of Otto being given to an orphanage, he grows up in a very secluse underground lair until the Ai uprising that Overlord is planning. As an heir of sorts? He's still a temporary vessel for Overlord, but just temporary until Overlord gets his own indestructible suit of metal.
The reason why Overlord isn't like the egotistical,god complex type of Ai he is to Otto(kinda?) is because Wings mom made a fail safe in his code in the advent something went wrong that causes him to care for one he deems worthy enough or close enough.
Of course, GLOVE only discovers this lair 16 years later so incoming panic occurs.
It could go one of 2 ways:
1.) GLOVE makes covert trip to this hidden lair(probably underwater).
Maybe HIVE also happens to be having an excursion on the same day? An incident occurs and the security features of the lair cause a mass black out or power outage. Our H.I.V.E gang(Wing, Laura, Shelby, Lucy, Franz and Nigel) only know some very sparse information on the GLOVE mission, but since it affected the H.I.V.E excursion and they are basically stranded, they sneak in(without permission) into this lair. It would practically be like all of their other life risking missions right?
Wrong. They get caught immediately by droids. The only thing that saved them was the fact that Otto also happened to be apart of this platoon and spared their lives. This is the FIIRST break in that has ever occurred after all. He's curious.
His father is "offline" at the moment so he's basically in charge.
The H.I.V.E gang is beyond confused on what a 16 year old is doing in a gloomy underwater lair surrounded only by bots and droids?!?! Who leaves a 16 year old in charge of THIS place?!?!
Otto probably even refers to his age in months.
They suspect he may be an android or something similar to Hivemind due to his odd behavior and being here of all places. Otto finds this amusing.
(He probably eats or drinks some kind of liquid elixir that basically provides his body with all the functional nutrients it needs. Otto probably made it himself when he was 3)
The info the H.I.V.E gang got was that this place was mass producing autonomous droids without any human workers on hand, and that the power outage was as a result of the lairs auto defense system taking place.
Otto is heavily amused by these fool- I mean "intruders". He practically toys with them constantly until his father comes back online but he is heavily curious.
He's never been outside before. The only information he's gotten of the outside world was through a digital library and a totally not heavily modified and curated internet created by Overlord. He has made SEVERAL attempts to breach it but come on, this is Overlord we're dealing with here. It doesn't do anything. Maybe that black goo from book 5 is in the network of the computer internet and that's why.
Otto also hasn't interfaced with the computers of the outside world. He's STRICTLY forbidden from doing so. Though, he does interface with the entire lair, so all the tech on board is practically under his control.
Let's pray that the H.I.V.E gang didn't bring any tech on board or else Otto is hijacking that thing in an instant.
So he genuinely asks the H.I.V.E gang what it is like outside and takes any answers given to him very seriously. Though, he will probably know when they are lying....though not all the time.
This shocks the H.I.V.E gang even more because this kid? Android? Person? has never been outside?!?!
Otto grows close with the H.I.V.E gang while also destroying the GLOVE agents trying to infiltrate the lair.
Otto's morals are a bit fucked in this au, but he's still Otto!
Of course H.I.V.E itself is panicking because of course their dumb ass students got involved. They always do. They always do!!
Otto is well aware of his father's plan and the fact that he's a lab grown baby, despite this he still feels some dissonance between him and the H.I.V.E gang.
So the main plot of this is that H.I.V.E gang must find a way to get out and shut down this lair before the Ai overlord returns and possibly get this strange white haired boy out in the process.
2.) Otto manages to leave the lair and ends up on H.I.V.E campus or something of similar note. This is separate from the first idea because Otto manages to break out himself.
Now, Overlord is beyond furious and panicked, or as panicked as a supercomputer can be. He probably decided to put his world take over plans in full swing the moment Otto turned 18 but probably decides to do it now because his kid- successor is missing.
