Have you met PENELOPE ABBOTT? SHE turned TWENTY-THREE on JUNE 25TH, is a PURE-BLOOD and is currently a MEDIWITCH/ARTIST. I heard they belong to the ORDER OF THE PHOENIX and was in HUFFLEPUFF. Donât they look an awful lot like OLIVIA HOLT? They are played by COURTNEY [ she/her | est ]
Tw: death mentions, attack mentions, and grief
There was a time when the Abbott family was one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight families. But over time as the other families grew darker and more prejudiced and elitist, the Abbott family slowly pulled away from that âPurebloodâ lifestyle. Over the past fifty years, the Abbott family sold their large estate and moved into their home in Godricâs Hollow. Some may call them blood traitors, but the Abbotts are happy with what they have and who they are.
The middle daughter of Ezra and Iris Abbott, Penny was always a cheerful and upbeat child. The three Abbott girls, Violet, Penelope, and Josephine were inseparable and spent most of their childhood running through Godricâs Hollow. The small village was ideal for raising their three girls and they had very few things to worry about. Penny would often come home with dirty dresses and leaves in her hair after a long day of playing in the surrounding hills with her sisters.
The year that Violet went to Hogwarts was difficult for Penny. Used to having her older sister in the bed across from hers, Penny spent that year feeling lost like a part of her was missing. At first they wrote to each other daily, but as Violet made friends at Hogwarts the letters slowed down. It was hard for Penny to accept that her sister was having fun at Hogwarts, and even harder for her to imagine having to wait two more years to join her sister at Hogwarts. It was a chilly autumn day when her mother sat down with her and gave her a canvas and some paints. Her mother had always been an artist and her supplies were always off limits to the girls so it was a special moment that opened Pennyâs eyes to another world.
Armed with a paintbrush, Penny would spend hours painting on canvas after canvas. Her parents always joked that Penny was going to bankrupt them with all the supplies that she was going through. But Iris was glad to have a daughter to share her passion with since Violet and Josephine had never shown any interest.
The day that Penelope got her Hogwarts letter, she packed her trunk that they had bought a few weeks earlier. Her mother teased her that she had packed way too soon, that Violet wasnât even home yet and she had a whole summer to get ready. But Penny was ready for Hogwarts and ready to start on a new adventure. Finally getting to be with Violet, who was going into her fourth year, was exciting for Penny. She couldnât wait to see all of the things that Violet had written to her over the years, and to be sorted into Gryffindor, just like Violet.
The summer went by in a blink of an eye and before she knew it, she was standing on Platform 9 žâs, ready to board the Hogwarts express. Josephine stood beside her with tears pouring down her face, but Penny promised to write to her at least four times a week, and she reminded her that she would be joining them next year. Boarding the train, Penny expected to be invited to sit with Violet and her friends. But instead her older sister promptly left her, looking for her friends, leaving Penny to drag her trunk to another compartment. But she didnât let that deter her. Finding a compartment with two other girls that looked about her age, Penny introduced herself to them. Their names were Hestia Jones and Wendy Slinkhard. They became fast friends, talking about their lives before they had come to Hogwarts, and fantasizing what it would be like at Hogwarts and what house they would be placed in. Penny proudly announced that she was going to be a Gryffindor, just like her older sister.
Arriving at the castle, Penny started to feel nervous for the first time. She hadnât imagined the castle being so large and intimidating, and she grew quieter by the moment. Penny didnât have to wait long to be sorted, and she walked across the Great Hall with more confidence than she really had. She met her sisterâs eyes at the Gryffindor table, and Violet gave her an encouraging smile as she hopped up on the stool and the hat was placed on her head. Within moments it yelled out Hufflepuff. Penny was shocked, and she didnât move off of the stool for a moment. She had been so sure that she would be in the same house as Violet, and she couldnât believe that she was a Hufflepuff. She wanted to ask the hat for a do-over, but then Professor McGonagall was ushering her off of the stool and over to the Hufflepuff table. The only consolation was when Hestia and Wendy joined her at the Hufflepuff table. Over the next few weeks, Penny grew to love her house and the disappointment of not being in Gryffindor faded as she learned what it really meant to be a Hufflepuff. She learned that Hufflepuffs were really the superior house with their kindness and patience and hard-work, which really fit her when she thought about it.
Her years at Hogwarts went by in what felt like a blink of an eye. Josephine joined the sisters at Hogwarts the following year and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Penny, Wendy, and Hestia were practically inseparable during their years at Hogwarts and Josie would join them occasionally with her friends. The girls saw each other through their first heartbreaks, their OWLs and NEWTs, and everything in between. When they were in their seventh year, Penny decided to put her dream of being an artist on hold and instead was going to follow her new dream of becoming a mediwitch. Something told her that it would be a good path to follow, and her mother had recently opened up a shop in Godricâs Hollow selling her art, so Penny figured that she could have the best of both worlds.
Getting a flat together in London, the three girls remained best friends, growing even closer. They saw each other through their first adult firsts, their first jobs, and first real relationships and heartbreaks. Penny was sure that they would remain best friends for the rest of their lives.
But that all changed at the Quidditch World Cup. One moment the girls were having fun cheering on the Holyhead Harpies, and the next chaos erupted. When people started to get hurt, Pennyâs mediwitch training kicked in and she threw herself into helping as many people as she could. She had yelled to Wendy and Hestia that she loved them and to be careful before they got swept up in the crowds. She had to put them out of her mind as she focused on doing what she could to help the people that were around that were being hurt. The things that she saw that day changed her, it was the first time that she had seen a large-scale attack of the sort, and saw the effects of war. When the fighting finally stopped and she reported to the triage tent that had been created to help the injured, she looked for Hestia and Wendy, but was always relieved when they never came into the tent. She was sure that they had managed to get out safely together and she would find them at home. She worked for nearly twenty-four hours straight helping people.
It was the following day when she finally managed to return to their flat, calling out to her friends to get no answer that she finally saw the casualty list. Both of them were on it. Penny collapsed on the ground screaming and sobbing and that was where her sisters found her hours later. They brought her home and thatâs where Penny has stayed. She hasnât returned to her flat since July, Violet was the one who packed up all of their belongings and brought them back home to Godricâs Hollow. Penny threw herself into her art again, feeling completely helpless. She had helped so many people that day but she hadnât helped the people that truly mattered.
It was a rainy September day when Albus Dumbledore came to see her in Godricâs Hollow. He told her about how sorry he was that Hestia and Wendy were gone, and offered for her to join the Order. Finally having some way to channel her grief, Penny agreed.
