Gabriel’s native culture is actually pretty androgynous. Royalty and nobles wear a lot of jewellery and precious stones, fine fabrics with excuisite textures. It’s a very hot climate so layers are minimal and textures are very fine. As is the amount of clothing. These people aren’t particularly taboo about nakedness.

As a member of the royal staff, Gabriel not only defies norms but risks punishment and ridicule for wearing earrings ‘like a whore’. He’s willing to take that risk in the name of his identity. He has been made to wear local clothes, speak the local language, and cut his hair in the local fashion, but he’s a stubborn, defiant cloud and you can rip his emeralds off his cold, dead corpse.
