I am saying this as a Gen Z queer, before y’all get your guns out to fucking shoot me.

But I need y’all to understand that if someone doesn’t give you their government name in a queer space, it’s not because they’re “mysterious,” and you do not have permission to take it upon yourself to figure out their “real identity” and go digging for them online like a private investigator. First, that’s creepy and a violation of privacy and reasonable boundaries. Second, some of us keep our private and professional lives very separate because we need to keep food on the fucking table and a roof over our heads, and our private life could jeopardize that.

“Why won’t you tell me about your parents?” “Why can’t I know your real name?” “Where do you work?”

1.) Not all our parents would bake us a fucking cake when we come out. Some of us are closeted. Surely you understand this? You also do not need to know my parent’s names or occupations; we are both adults. I do not need nor want to mix you and my private life with my parents and my public life.

2.) Trans people do not owe you their dead name or government name

3.) I’m not telling you for the sake of job security. I am a government fucking caseworker working amidst a fucking lavender panic!

No, I am a completely different person. A different person with a different personality and different interests and a different name and presentation. See— that’s part of the issue. Y’all assume someone is in the closet because they hate themselves or lack self-identity. Some of us know exactly who we are, but need to prioritize financial stability or else our entire life gets exponentially harder immediately.

I need y’all to start bringing that energy. Because it’s not always safe for someone to be out and not everyone is safe to be out around.

There is a misnomer that “the closet” inherently means “doesn’t know they’re queer” and not “isn’t out widely and publicly.” “Outness” is often a patchwork.

That first graphic is kind of whack. For one thing, it doesn’t specify which part of the shoe is being referred to by the term - a slingback, for instance, can be flat just as easily as high-heeled; the term refers to the strap that goes around the back of the heel. And the actual term for what they’re calling a “bicolor” is a “spectator shoe.” A platform shoe’s platform can extend all the way from toe to heel; you’re not always going to even see a separate heel, let alone a tiny spike heel like that. T-strap shoes can be flat, and kitten heels can be on any style of hard-soled shoe. The second graphic repeats a lot of the same.

One of the contractors at work is a dude who recently moved here from the Bay Area. He is used to Northern California, which is to say that he is NOT used to the general Tornado Alley attitude towards Thor dragging his dick across the plains and causing massive destruction on a semi-regular basis.

Namely, the fact that we get them at all, and the fact that the general Midwestern response is to wander outside to see if we can see it.

We have bad weather forcasted the next few days and I had to talk him through the site tornado plan and storm shelter locations (we have six on site, my office is actually inside one) to head off the poor guy's anxiety and also I had to admit that yes, I also share the general Tornado Alley brain damage and go outside to try and see it when the sirens go off.

Poor man thinks everyone in tornado Alley is out of their minds and as one of those people I can't even deny it. 'I seek shelter if it's heading this way' did not reassure him, he's convinced we are mad.

To answer the question in the notes, @what-about-second-tmblr ; when I visited Sacramento and LA some years ago, the sensation of a minor earthquake shifting the ground around just barely enough for a human to feel it had me freaked out and basically lying flat on my back outside going AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA while the Californians looked at me like I'd lost my mind.

So yes it is reciprocal.

This particular image is of the famous (among people fascinated by weather, anyway) Pilger Nebraska twin tornados! Two EF4 tornados from the same storm on the ground at the same time. This footage was captured by storm chaser Hank Schyma, better known as Pecos Hank, who is a fabulous nature photographer and provides data to weather researchers to better predict storms and severe weather. The smaller twin at this point is setting the land speed record for a tornado as it orbits the larger tornado; it was clocked at a foward speed of 94.6 MPH (sustained for only 5.3 seconds)

ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves

back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore

don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM

so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
