January 16, 1971:

Elvis Presley was named One of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (the Jaycees). Elvis and Priscilla attended the JCC prayer breakfast at the Memphis Holiday Inn Rivermont.

Afterwards, there was a press conference where Elvis responded to a question about the effect of music on today’s youth. “I don’t go along with music advocating drugs and desecration of the flag. I think an entertainer is for entertaining and to make people happy.”

So I was going to just repost my poem from last year and then sort of avoid Tumblr today because…emotions, but I guess some more love needed to come out. And I’m glad to have people who understand why today can be so emotional. ❤️

I’ve been a jumbled mess of emotions today

Loving that you were here, feeling sad that you couldn’t stay

I’m sorry that you had to give so much, make the biggest sacrifice

But I’m grateful for all the light and beauty you’ve brought into my life

I don’t want to dwell today on the suffering and pain

But instead the music and laughter that have imprinted on my brain

What an incredible thing to leave a legacy so grand

That you hold millions of hearts in the palm of your hand

And I hand mine to you gladly to keep in your tender touch

So you never have to question that I love you so much

even at great distances you can spot an authentic Elvis by focusing on his stance -

look for hands on or somewhere near his hips

fingers may be hooked into the waistband of his pants or his pockets

often one leg is gracefully pointed away from midline

Why do these videos and pictures of him with no belt have my heart racing like this? Ugh, this man is too sexy! 🥵😍❤️
