Got a question, how did you come up with the human designs for the TTTE crew? Trial and error or chaos filled one-shot?

That means a lot that my art is what keeps you around, seriously thank you for that it makes me feel happy to create art knowing there's people who enjoy whatever it is I make :)

also I love this question! I will say, I'm always so inspired by other artists depictions of these characters. It's cool seeing how we all focus on specific details of a character and how that plays into their human counterpart. I actually have a bunch of refs of different people's faces that help me in deciding how to design certain features on a character.

Some characters I was more certain of compared to others... Gordon, for example, was a bit of a one shot go only because I had my sights on making him Latino British LOL . I also loved his early model faces and how his upper lip reminded me of a sharp parted pencil mustache. Making him heavier weight was also a detail I had from the very beginning and with all those specific details it made designing him more easier and straightforward.

The character I was most ""trial and error" with was probably Thomas. Figuring out what ethnicity, hairstyle, body proportions, and overall depiction was a bit tricky for me. (At some point my cousin asked why he looked like a hill billy and I couldn't help but go god damnit r u deadass LOL) I like how he looks now for sure, and I really like the idea of him being wasian. His tooth gap and bandages are also meant to represent how he tends to get into accidents and crashes due to his cheekiness and naiveness.

I don't want to make this response longer than it needs to be but I could talk about each of my human designs and the choices behind them for. a long time!! But overall some designs are more on the screw it one shot go when I have a set idea of how I want them to be depicted, while others need more time and alternate designs before I get something I feel reflects the character they are meant to portray!

MY HUMAN DESIGNS SO FAR LINEUP!!!!!!

shoutout to this ask, it really made me sit down and think about things LOL

I have two ways of awnsering this question:

Long story short, I absolutely adore the use of real practical sets and face puppetry. The soft atmosphere and storytelling helps me so much to wind down after a long ass day in University LOL.

Short story long: I really do admire the production of the first couple seasons, but even with the CGI animated seasons and movies, I really love the characters. I'm a really big robot enthusiast, and the mechanical nature of the characters also kept me around LOL. I love how these characters are not only different forms of locomotives and automobiles, but the fact that this plays into the storytelling and how they operate within the world is EVERYTHING to me. The railway isn't just their home but also a place of work. They exist for a purpose and they do so willingly and proudly, but they also operate within the relationships they form with one another. I also like the somewhat alluded nature of the Island of Sodor being a place where all engines can exist, whether or not they are as efficient as newer more "useful" engines. Even when there are certain occasions of trains being boarded up for different reasons (LOL) I still like how everyone has a place to be, and the alluding presence of being scrapped is just. I love worldbuilding and I love being able to think of my own interpretations and head cannons for characters AND the world itself. It's also made me appreciate the beautiful work of preservation and locomotives in general. Oh my god I genuinely can't help but love how much preservations relies on true care and love, if we only focused on what was efficient and most profitable, the real beautiful steam engines of the past would bee gone. I think it really is amazing how the realistic notions of the Thomas and friends world has sparked a new care in me towards these topics.

I could keep rambling but for who my fav characters are, I have so many for so many reasons but I'll try to keep this part short! I love the whole steam team a lot i don't know if I've made it obvious enough LOL. At first I didn't really care for Thomas, but now I genuinely think he is so cute and wonderful. But generally, James, Gordon, Henry, Percy, Edward, Cranky, Emily, Victor, Rosie and Theo are some of my favs, NOT ALL. But ones that come to mind LOL THERE'S JUST SO MANY GOOD CHARACTERS. Donald and Douglas are also really fun as well as belle who I saw one clip of so far and absolutely loved her.

I will say though, I am a really big suckerr for characters who are grumpy or easily annoyed by everyone and everything, which is why characters like Gordon are just. so awesome especially the first few seasons of the classic era.
