I take big inspiration from old oil paintings, primarily Impressionism paintings. I still feel I have a lot to know, but you notice means a lot !!!

at least as someone who gets shot a lot and died (!!!) he should use a lot of armor. i really cant understand why those comic artists draw him in short sleeves all the time (who am i kidding they dont know how to draw clothes so everything is skin tight + arm muscles). also, putting armor on that would make him hulk like and bigger than batman and we all know size = asskicking = authority = superiority, and by comic rule no one can really be bigger than batman.

Firstly, thank you so much for the comment—I totally agree! As someone who likes to base my character designs through an acting and performance lens, I personally prefer Jason having a more grounded appearance. Additionally, I like focusing on each character’s individual quirks and traits.

Jason, for example (at least in my opinion), would initially have a similar build to Dick’s to better support the transition when he was Robin. However, as time goes on, Jason’s appearance adapts to his new fighting style. I like to reference boxers for him, since depending on the style, they come in very different builds.

I think of it the same way you’d compare runners’ physiques—a cross-country runner versus a sprinter looks completely different because one prioritizes endurance while the other relies on power. I view the Batfamily the same way: although they’re all fighters, they use their bodies in vastly different ways.

…also, I personally think it’d be a dead giveaway if a bricked-up man was walking around Gotham. If it didn’t outright expose him as Red Hood, it’d at least make him far more prone to suspicion—and Jason isn’t the kind of guy who draws attention to himself like that.
