Itās a Dangerous Game (Celena Nightmare Event, Part 3): Solo Para
Continued from here:Ā
Find part one here:Ā
Time was a blur after Ardenzanaās execution.Ā Cora found herself imprisoned in a corner of the palace, but this time it was a room dedicated to āThe Atrocities of the House of Hearts.āĀ Sometimes people passed through on a tour, and Cora realized from their discussion she was also considered an atrocity.Ā An abomination.Ā Some people poked at her cage, trying to see if they could get her to slip.Ā Much to Coraās dismay, it happened more often than sheād like.Ā Yet she couldnāt bring herself to care.Ā
What was there to care about, after all?Ā Her mother was dead.Ā Her queendom was gone.Ā Her friends had abandoned her.Ā And her father had married the woman whoād executed her mother.Ā
Cora had nothing anymore.Ā
āThought you would have run out of tears by now, princess.ā

Solo Para: Thatās So Unreal You Believe That Itās True (Celena Nightmare Event, Part 2)
Continued from here:Ā
Cora didnāt know how long it was before she awoke.Ā All she knew was that she wore the same dress- her coronation gown āexcept now, it was in tatters.Ā Everything was dark.
āHurry up, Cora.Ā Youāre going to be late for a very important date if you donāt come to soon,ā Aliceās voice sounded far too smug.Ā Before Cora could react, two guards in Wonderlandian livery hauled her to her feet.Ā They dragged her through the palace, though its black, white, and red elements seemed to have been replaced all in pale blue or white.Ā
Colors of a little girlās infamous dress.
Colors Ardenzana hated.
Solo Para: A Darker Dream That Has No Ending (Celena Nightmare Event)
Cora took a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling slowly.Ā It was happening.Ā After all these years- years of waiting and wishing, planning and hoping, training and striving to prove herself as worthy, it was happening.Ā She had been recognized as heiress to Wonderland, Princess of Hearts.
And today, she was being crowned Queen of Hearts, Monarch of all Wonderland.
"You know, I honestly don't get how they see your family as even half as bad as they say they do around here. Things were a lot worse back home." -Nick, @lexder-of-the-pxck
Cora perked up, intrigued by the concept someone didnāt automatically assume her family were villains, āMe neither, but Iām biased, obviously.ā She winked, āWait, whereās home?ā
asktheheartsprincessā:
Cora was silent for a long moment. It was rare that she was fully speechless, but the only words she could think of werenāt exactly appropriate.
It didnāt help that red was beginning to tinge the edges of her vision and things were starting to tilt sideways.
She took two deep breaths and squeezed her eyes shut:
āNot now. Goblins, not now.ā
At last, Cora bit her lip. Her hand clinging to her cup of coffee like a vice, she finally managed, āSo you had a fairy flying grown up Alice. Who claimed he found a land of his own. Howā¦.awful that such slithy individuals appear to exist everywhere.ā
As Nick described these so-called re-education centers, the princess queried, āLike the rehabilitation center. I donāt know how much you know about Auradon, but they decided anyone who was a āvillainā should be punished. At first they were sent to the Isle of the Lost- those who were dead were resurrected to serve their punishment,ā haughtily, Cora retorted, āHer Majesty never desecrated the dead. Once the punishment was carried out, it was final, that was it- no need to torture a soul. Not like the heroes, who, stunningly enough, have figured out the Isle was torture. And so theyāve created the Rehabilitation Center- a wicked-looking place compared to the Isle, but the idea is all the residents must ascribe to Auradonian values and virtues before being released.ā
She rose to her feet, turning away from Nick, āFor that reason alone, Their Majesties will never be released. Her Majesty is far too proud to give up Wonderlandian morals for Auradonian, and His Majesty loves her. So it falls to me. You knowā¦Wonderland had its own language. But its usage is dying. There are few native speakers left. I amā¦sorry to hear of the atrocities your Alice caused.ā
Clearing her throat, Cora gathered her emotions and faced him once more, āI know that sounds empty. But itās not.ā

Nick growls when Cora talks about the rehabilitation center that way, sitting up.Ā āThey what?ā
He sighs and calms himself. Not now, not yet, not with her. Sheās not the target. But someone will be hearing about this one. Heāll make sure of it.Ā āNo, believe me, I... I donāt think itās half as empty coming from you as it would be from a lot of people. I do believe you mean it, and that... that comes from a hard place, I know that.ā
Startled, Cora dropped the coffee cup to the ground with a clatter.
Did Nick just...growl at her? She wasnāt quite sure how she felt about it. Had she imagined it? And if she didnāt, how did one respond to that? Was she supposed to growl back?
Trying to recover some of her dignity, she grabbed a nearby napkin and wiped up some of the offending liquid.
āIt is hard,ā Cora admitted, āand Iām not sure Iām doing the wicked thing by trying to fit in, but my other option is ending up in the Rehabilitation Center myself. And I wonāt allow that to happen.ā
āIām surprised no one told you about the center before,ā she adding, ticking a strand of hair behind her ear.

She settled herself into a nearby chair, elegantly crossing her legs as she dragged her coffee closer.

āWell, I guess itās best to start at the general beginning of the end. This guy Christopher Columbus gets permission to sail the opposite direction from India to go around the globe and find a back way for it. His ships, however, rock up on the coast of North America, the continent. Not knowing any better, he claims the people already on the land must beĀ āIndiansā. When he finally figures out he didnāt reach his goal, he claims he discovered a new country. Notice a problem with that one?ā He raises an eyebrow and shakes his head as he pulls up a chair, leaning forward and clasping his hands together.
āPlease understand Iām paraphrasing the lessons here, weāll be here all week otherwise. Before long, multiple European countries were sending ships with more settlers for their new colonies on thisĀ ānewā land. And the Indians? Well, theyāre the problem with that expansion. They need more than they have. And the natives to the land donāt worship their same beliefs. So they become savages and it becomes their right to attack Native tribes for supplies, and kill any of them who resisted. Not to mention the diseases they carried with them, that the natives of the land had no way of fighting off because this was their first exposure. And this was all before America was real and official. After America was starting to establish its own footholds on the world...ā
He shakes his head.Ā āThey wanted more. Always more. They wanted to expand westward. But they had a new purpose to move westward. Their religious practices, their singular God, that theĀ āsavagesā didnāt know and didnāt believe in. They had to spread their Godās word to the āsavagesā, had toĀ āsaveā them. They kidnapped native children and forced them into āschoolsā for a re-education. Theyād punish the children for speaking their native languages, would cut their hair against their cultureās tradition and force them to live the western way. All the while pushing tribes into small pockets of land and then pushing them out of that when they decided they wanted it instead. Those who resisted died. They werenāt white and they didnāt believe in the same God. To the colonists, that was enough reason.ā
He shrugs.Ā āHistory proved them wrong. The people of America slowly did come to regret what they did. But itās been far too late for that. They created reservation lands where they could return tribes to their own land. But the damage was irreparable, really. So many traditions, native languages were lost entirely. No one knows them anymore. People donāt even realize I have Native American blood because I pass for white. Because of what colonists did to my tribe and countless others. And nowadays there are so many extremely vocal Americans who... well, the racism is beyond astonishing. They think the countryās paid enough for what happened. They wiped out populations, wiped out tribes and their culture and their languages, and they think theyāre done apologizing. They have sports teams with racist names and mascots and think that Native Americans shouldĀ ājust let it goā. They use our various heritages as costumes during Halloween and for outdoor concert festivals and theyĀ still insult people who know their native language for using it and say thatĀ āwe speak English in Americaā. And if youāre not on the reservation, youāre expected to respect the flag that represents the people who committed a genocide against your people.ā
Clearing his throat, he sits up a bit and wipes tears from his eyes.Ā āIām sorry, that last part was... probably a little more uncalled for, you asked for the history lesson not the... not the modern part. But, uh... yeah, thatās why I donāt really hold your mother at fault for her response to Alice.ā

"You know, it's really hard to keep an eye on a charge that doesn't believe I'm her angel and just disappears randomly. What'd you do, trip into a rabbit hole?" - Eve
āIf youāre my angel, shouldnāt you be able to- I donāt know -poof, and just figure out where I am?ā Cora mused, still disbelieving the whole affair, āI donāt know, Iām still not sure I buy it.Ā But if youāre curious: there were rogue mome wraths in Wonderland.Ā Someone had to help.Ā So while I did fall down a rabbit hole, it was deliberate.āĀ
"Angels really aren't under the command of this 'God' dude everyone seems to think we are," Eve shrugged. "It's a system that's actually a lot more complicated than that, and I'm not allowed to understand any of it yet because of my... personal situation with the Guardian Angels." She sighed, shaking her head. "Look, I-"
She stopped, closing her eyes hard and sneezing, her wings bursting out from her back... and smacking directly into the wall. "OW!" Eve reached up to rub her wing, frowning. "Ow, that was not pleasant." She cleared her throat. "Anyways, nobody is deciding your morality. When it comes to angels... basically, morals are a really, really complex thing, but it all comes down to you. When you decide to do something that you believe is morally wrong, it's a bad choice. When you decide to do something that you believe is morally good, it's a good choice. My whole job as your angel is to make sure that you stick to your own personal beliefs-" She sneezed again, grumbling.
"Christ, that's getting very annoying very fast. I'm just here to help you decide for yourself what you believe is good and bad, not anybody else, and not force anyone else's moral stances on you. Angels and our society is stupid, Adam is stupid, Auradon is stupid, all of this is stupid, but I've got a job to do, and I'd really like to do it."
Cora paused, āSo youāre saying if I decide to murder Axel, I get off scot free as long as I think itās wicked?ā She laughed at the absurdity of it, though she was immediately distracted by the wings, āWow, you *really* went hardcore, didnāt you?ā She walked over to Eve, poking at the feathers, āYour costume is wicked! Did Evie help you? This looks like her handiwork!ā

Closed Starter: Iām Not Sick
@themagicwxmade
Cora sneezed. The sound was louder than any sneeze had the right to possibly be, and equally louder than it had to be came her sharp rap of annoyance:
āOkay, *who* thought it would be a wicked joke to leave pixie dust under my pillow?ā
Ugh, Axel, probably. Heād always had it out for her, and she never knew why. Though it could have been Audrey, it would certainly have been easier for Audrey to sneak into the girlsā dorm...
But either way, both knew she was allergic to pixie dust, and both had to know it would ruin her day.
She had no other reason to feel like this, after all.
Students scattered under her accusatory glare, and Cora bit her lip in dismay as she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a hallway mirror. Her face was pale white, except for her nose, which was almost a clownish red. Her lips were chapped and dry, and goblins was that *sweat* on her head? How uncouth, to be sweating when she wasnāt fighting.
And why in Wonderland was she sweating when she felt so fairy flying cold!? The princess clutched her leather jacket closer, trying to pull it together. People in Auradon kept talking about how wicked their weather was, but it was moodier than Captain Hook when he heard a clock tick....
She furiously wiped the sweat away, raising a brow as she saw someone in the mirror behind her.
āWhat?ā Cora demanded, āAziz, donāt tell me *you* did it?ā

Cora automatically introduced herself by her full title (a practice sheād tried to implement even more after theā¦Audrey Incident), āHer Imperial Highness, Her Grace, Her Excellency, Her Royal Majesty, Corazana of Wonderland, Princess of Hearts. I go by Cora. Wicked to meet you, Nick,ā she shrugged at his question, biting her lip, āDespite the lengthy title, I grew up on the Isle of the Lost, which wasnāt exactly a bastion of education,ā she wrinkled her nose, āMore a bastion of propaganda. Our knowledge of most things was deliberately kept limited. Even here itās only slowly starting to get wickeder. Soā¦no, I donāt know much of anything.ā She looked away, embarrassed by the admission. After all, knowledge was power, and lack of knowledge put her at a disadvantage here.

Nick frowns and nods.Ā āI see. Have time for the history lesson, then? Itās a lot, and I donāt wanna go into it if you have something to do or anything.ā
Heās definitely prepared to start, though. He only knew some of the basics about thisĀ āIsle of the Lostā and he knew perfectly well from little he did understand about it he had some strong opinions on it. But he has a feeling they both could learn a lot from this particular discussion, and it was going to be important to hear.

āWell, Iām not from Auradon, for a start. Iām from America. Specifically, theĀ Penobscot Island Indian Reservation. I donāt know how much any Auradonian knows about how America treated the native population of the country, so Iām not sure I know where to start...ā Nick shakes his head.
āIām Nick Penewit, before I forget. It really is an honor to meet you.ā

"I really wish that was how it worked," Eve said, "but I can't sense you if you're outside a certain range, not yet. And Wonderland just happens to fall outside that range." She sighed, putting her hands in her pockets.
"Look, I know it sounds absolutely insane, but I was assigned to you to make sure you're constantly protected until you become Queen." She paused and shook her head. "Maybe it was because I'm not good or bad, so they want me to try and relate to you, I don't know. But the point is it's real, and you're being really, really stubborn about it."
Cora rolled her eyes, āSure it does. Of course Wonderland is in its own interdimensional pocket.ā It was awfully convenient for Eve that these āpowersā came with restrictions. She laughed, though not cruelly. She was genuinely impressed by Eveās dedication to the joke. Cora herself wasnāt religious- Wonderlandās Royals followed no sacred duties but those they regarded as their bonds to the queendom -and the idea of angels had always seemed silly to her. When sheād read about them, flying about and strumming harps, she thought it was a sweet concept- but she trusted her own daggers, physical and real, more than a supposed ethereal being.
āLook, I hope you donāt find this offensive, but I donāt really believe in God,ā Cora admitted, āItās not a...thing, in my family. And honestly, the idea of someone āBig Deciding on My Morality and State of my Soul remindsā me of King Be- Adam. I donāt...like King Adam,ā she supposed that was the politest way to phrase it, āBecause he decided I was evil before I was even born. Who does that? Who made him judge and jury and-ā pinching her nose, she sighed, āWhat I am trying to say is Iām sick of people judging me in the natural, physical world. I donāt need a supernatural judge too. Let alone one who sends someone to follow me around like some sort of spy, just waiting for me to sl- fail.ā

š¬ - Audrey!
Cora narrowed her eyes when she saw Audrey by her dorm room.Ā Feelings of revulsion and rage warred within her.Ā She couldnāt forget what the other girl had done to her.Ā There Cora had been, trying to offer support, empathy, help- and Audrey had gone on and quite literally stabbed her in the back.Ā The other girl had blamed CoraĀ for her own actions of stealing Maleficentās staff,Ā mocking her, telling her she didnāt deserve Wonderland, didnāt deserve happiness, that was worthless- The words repeated over and over in Coraās head, and almost against her will, she began to recall how sheād been cursed, in an almost permanent slip, to the Isle.Ā Ā Her very being screeched and cried out against even recalling it.Ā She couldnāt decide what she hated more- that curse or the fact that leaders of the Isleās rival gangs had had to help her.Ā Her.Ā Cora always felt like second wickedest, trying to measure up no matter what she did, and in her weakest, most vulnerable moment, sheād had to depend on her enemies.Ā Ā It sickened her.Ā Ā So when Cora saw the girl who had not only rejected her, but tortured her, she had to resist the urge to throttle her.Ā The only thing stopping her was the furious pounding of her own heart-Ā
Goblins, was she seriously afraid of Audrey?Ā Worried of what the former princess could do to her?Ā Ā No, Cora realized, Iām worried about slipping. Again.Ā Proving her fairy-flying right.Ā Ā āYou,ā she sneered,Ā āGet away from my room.āĀ
