Stop taking away James’s confidence. I don’t know how to explain it, but James Potter isn’t insecure. He’s the type of person to pull people onto dance floors; he loves life and people. He smiles at anyone and will make fun of them because he wants to. He will talk to people in elevators, cheer for his friends, and is the loudest in any room. He’s quick to anger and quick to forget. He’s kind but self-respecting and self-righteous, firm and respectful but certainly not humble. He’s the meaning of compassionate assertiveness. You don’t need to make a character insecure and miserable to make them relatable. James radiates confidence and self-assurance and believes in himself so deeply, which in turn makes others believe in themselves. Sometimes non-loser characters are fun! I swear, popular and confident people are still deep; they still have a lot to say and feel. Not every character needs to have a clinical mental illness to be defined.
