On Sixth Anniversary Of Flint Water Crisis, Flint Still Has No Backup Water Source

Flint, MI–On the sixth anniversary of the Flint water crisis, Flint is again in the midst of a crisis.

Six years after the disastrous switch to the Flint River as a source of drinking water for the city, which led to an outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease and toxic levels of lead leaching into the water, the city remains in violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act for not having a reliable secondary drinking water source.

Mayor Sheldon Neeley sent a stern message to Flint city council Monday to, “finish the job,” referring to the 21-inch diameter, five-and-a-half-mile pipe, that would connect Genesee County’s water system to Flint. The pipe would ensure that should the current system, which pulls Lake Huron water via Detroit, fail, Flint would have a readily available source of water.

As of now, the only backup source the city has are water reservoirs, which would only supply residents with drinkable water for a matter of days. If anything, such as a major line break or any other unpredictable event that could compromise the city’s water, it’s unclear where Flint would go next once the reservoirs run dry. “The results could be catastrophic,” Neeley said.

The city, per federal law, must have a secondary source of water. The proposed project would be paid for by an Obama era bill, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. The act authorized $100 million in funding for “Flint, Mich., to recover from the lead contamination in its drinking water system.” According to the EPA, $87 million of that money has not been spent.

The proposed backup system was due to be completed in December of 2019 at a cost of $14.7 million in federal funds. On Monday, the council again voted 4 to 4 delaying construction.  A majority vote of six would be needed from the nine-person council to reconsider the contract before they could revisit the project.

Moodboards and Faceclaims are the best things that help me to visualize character faces, reactions and description for a scene. I used to love using them for threads before my role-play career kinda died and I still use them for funks when I get writers block or feel constipated in ideas.

- For each of the fandoms you have written in, what were/are your favourite characters to write? Why were these characters your favourite? (Can be main, side, established, or original!)

Some characters come easier than others, but I have a lot of them that hold a special and unexpected place in my heart. My list is as follows:

*TMNT: Rapheal. Originally it was not this way but as I have grown, I have found Raph's struggles the most complex and interested, though Leo always holds a special place in my heart.

*One Piece: Maria, my OC. Her interactions with the established characters and attitude has always worked well and flexed happily with anything I put her through.

*Yugioh: Jaze, my OC. She is literally my pride and joy in this fandom and some of my writing in general. Her character is a bit basic I suppose but her story is complex and I adore the research and energy I poured into making her.

*X-Men: Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler. He is the love interest though I adore him. Every media is different for him but I super relate and just find creating his different attitudes always really fun.

*Avengers: Loki. Even to the point where I have kept him as a muse for my most beloved threads with my best friend in the word and is the character I can easily call on without much effort.

*Magi: Kouen actually. As you can tell, this blog used to be a Judar role-play and while he was my muse, Kouen was one of my joys to write for this fanfic being the main love interest. I find his attitude and pride a lot of fun to play with.

*Overwatch: Genji. I love writing that little shit.

*Undertale: Underswap Papyrus/Stretch. His struggles and personality are honestly unqiue in many ways and he has stayed a big muse as well as a result.

*Voltron: Lotor. See Marvel Loki.

*Kingdom Hearts: Roxas. He is so dear to me in so many ways and the first character I really adored from this serious and related to so heavily. Also one of my muses now as result.

*DC: Aurthur Flynn, my own version of the Joker. His struggles and modern day battles with suicide, mental health and Bruce really has me able to put out a character I could see more of in the potential of the previous versions created.

*HTTYD: Toothless. Need I say more?

*Game of Thrones: Roxy, my OC. His journey and growth in character makes me very happy.

*FFXV: Noctis. His privilege but consequence makes him one of my favorites and easiest muses as well.

*FFVII: Areith. Still one of my favorite FF girls as result besides Lunafreya.

*Avatar: Iroh? I've played with some ideas and I find his wit and support the most fun I've had with a older character.

Oh Jesus, here comes confession time.

So baby me, around 8, was a massive, huge, innocent fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hardcore obsessed to the point I would watch the 4Kidz series through multiple times, every season and fill in any breaks with the movies. I adored Leonardo and his brothers and projected myself heavily into the show, even to the point where I was planning on becoming the world's youngest vet and moving to New York in plans on falling into the sewers and marrying Leonardo. I honestly held onto this dream till I was 14.

Why Is A Curfew Damaging:

1. A vast majority of white people work 9-5 while many immigrants and POC work night shifts, making them easy targets to be out past curfew.

2. The Mayors broadcast was sent out only in English, with no subtitles, in no other languages. Makes it very hard for non English speakers to receive this information.
