Both Amazon and the stores seem to reccomend the same books/books similar to what the other is reccomending. I don't know about book publishing and I'm assuming it has a lot to do with that, but I'm also assuming it has to do with trends like booktok. Most of the books I've picked up from the stores and the top reccomend ones from Amazon have been disappointing. Maybe I have high standards or specific tastes, but when book after book just doesn't do it for me, it makes me wonder if it's not me but the 'system'. It got to a point that I don't really look for books in the stores anymore (or I go in expecting to leave empty handed), because it's most likely going to be mediocre stories with mediocre writing that somehow has a 4.5/5 rating. And the strange thing is the book descriptions always sound interesting! Of course I only want to read the ones I find interesting, yet all of my private reviews end up being "1/5. The premise was so good, I was so looking forward to it, but it was disappointing."

I thought things were maybe taking a turn a while back when I went to one of the stores and found some books I'd wishlisted on Amazon in the new books section. I bought 3 of them. I haven't read 1, but of the other two: one was unfortunately disappointing, but the other was 💫💫💫💫. I was so happy that I finally read a good book and that it had the privilege of being sold in stores. It was soon removed from the new books section though, and with some new hope, I started looking at romantasy books at that store again. What was strange, though, is that I've since found the disappointing book on the shelves, but not the great book. Maybe it's been put in a different section, maybe I just didn't see it, maybe it's been selling and is out of stock- but also maybe it fell victim to not being 'mainstream' (although it has a high rating online).

And I'd like to mention that not all reccomend and 'mainstream' books suck. There's been some I've read and LOVED or though were at least pretty good, and I get happy to see it has many high reviews. For me that's a rare gem, though. Out of 10 'mainstream' books, I'll wall away liking maybe 2 or 3. And it's strange, to look up reviews and ratings for the books that I frankly found to be bad, and they have thousands of high ratings and reviews.

you can think of this being either fae or human reader but when you mentioned help, seeing an injured lilia who had to limp away from the camp after checking if his men are okay. so, he's in the middle of the woods hissing and sitting against a tree while lifting his clothing to see that big unhealing slash across his abdomen. the blood has already clotted but it's still dangerously huge and dirty and he's trying his best to heal it with his magic but it's concerning how he still feels the pain. plus, he needs to rest both his mana and body.

Lilia shows up with- let's say an arm wound. Let's say it was bad enough (maybe he almost got it cut off or something) that even after using healing magic it still needs to rest naturally. But his entire body is filthy; he should really wash off in the nearby stream. And since his arm is injured and he shouldn't move it around too much, you take it upon yourself to *ahem* wash his back and his hair.

Or maybe one time, when he falls asleep on your lap, you put a flower in his hair and he doesn't notice until he gets back to camp and everyone's staring and its Baul that mentions something.

Or at first he doesn't spend his lunch/supper with you. But one time he happened to be with you during that time and you make him food. And you get to have a lovely dinner with him ❤ And it's after that that he starts going missing more and more from camp during those times- because he's eating the food you made him. ((I wonder if the others would be realived to not be in the vicinity of his bad cooking? Did he learn his bad cooking from this time in his life? Are his comrads just as bad at cooking?))

The winner of the tournament or just the round will present a rose to someone afterwards. Sebek has always presented his to his liege, Malleus. But this time he's walking past where he'd usually stop. The crowd starts murmuring, wondering what in the world is going on with the man who always has the same routine after each match. You're just as surprised as the crowd when he stops in front of you, his hand reaching out to present you with the rose, awaiting the silent answer of if you'll accept it or not.

(Is is face blushing red? Or is he desperately trying to remain neutral to seem as if nothing is bothering him, but it comes off as a cold, stony look?)

When he's upset and you can't calm him, where his rants turn into picking at his own flaws. Drowning himself in his self-hatred, tugging at the strands of blonde, that isn't quite blonde enough—nitpicking at how his lavender ends arent that lavender, even if he hand picked and hand mixed the dye. He can't stand it. Staring—loathing his very own expression. Hating his very face that's plaster like stickers upon a wall, for everyone's eyes to constantly see and because they see him, they think know him. They don't—They could never understand nor comprehend the ugly witch that lies beneath. He hates the way he looks, the way he talks, how he can't break out of whatever box he's forced himself in too.
