it’s been 2 years lmao

thanks for sticking with me through my long hiatus. i appreciate you if you’re still here! 

August 3, 2018//back to school planning

Here’s my tentative schedule for fall semester! I made a lot of room in the evening for days I have to work in the hall office (I got the job!!)

 I’m only taking 12 credits, but I learned a long time ago that a) It is a better pace for my ADHD brain, b) it keeps me sane, c) I don’t want a heck ton of classes in the first place, and d) literally nobody cares. 

If you are in the same boat as me, don’t worry about the number of credits you’re taking this semester. The amount of classes you are in does not define you, your level of intelligence, or your worth. In some cases, it may be smarter to take college at a slower pace. You’ll have more time to study, you’ll be less stressed overall with your workload, and you’ll enjoy the classes you’re in that relate to your major.

If you are looking at a full timetable and are happy with the classes you are taking, don’t worry about what others say. Some people take extra credits to save money and finish college earlier. Feel confident in your decision and make time for yourself in the midst of your busy workload. You may throw yourself into your classes and immerse yourself in knowledge, which is totally awesome and very rewarding.

From May-July 2018, I will be at a summer ministry program at the University of Northern Florida. This program is an AWESOME opportunity for me to unplug for the this summer. At this time, I will be on hiatus and do not plan to start posting again until I return in August 2018. THANK YOU for understanding and I’ll be back soon!

In the 2 years I’ve been a part of the studyblr community, I've noticed a lack of future and current educators on Tumblr. I decided to create a studyblr directory of sorts for education majors, aspiring teachers, and current teachers. 

I created a typeform, and everyone who responds to it will be added to my directory. Hopefully, we can find/follow each other and share lesson plan ideas, PRAXIS study tips, and general life advice.

While this isn’t studyblr related, I’d like to share my story (yep, that’s me in that baby pic) in honor of Go Red For Women today. 

On September 6, I was born 3 weeks early with a series of complex congenital heart defects known as Shone's Complex.

This included: -coarctation of the aorta (obstructed bloodflow to body) -bicuspid aortic valve (2 leaflets fused together) -bilateral svc (blood pumping to right atrium) -parachute mitral valve (valve connected to 1 muscle) -severe mitral valve stenosis (narrowing of valve) -single right ventricle (only right side of heart functions)

Because the left side of my heart was less developed-a form of hypoplastic left heart syndrome-I couldn't pump blood properly to the rest of my body. I underwent a series of 4 surgeries, all before the age of 4, in a (successful) attempt to give me a single right ventricle heart: the Norwood, Glenn, Fontan, and Damus-Kaye Stansel. I have been relatively stable and healthy since my last surgery, and this year will mark my 16 years post-Fontan. Nowadays, I only visit the cardiologist once a year for echos, ekg's, exercise tests, holter monitors, x-rays, and the like.

I owe a lot to the surgeons, doctors, nurses, family, and friends who were there for my family when I was in the hospital. Life wouldn't be the same without my heart defects, and I wouldn't want it any other way. <3
