there's never a true concrete motive when these men r arrested n the evidence always seemed planted but this doesn't matter 4 the lapd. captain donnelly always boasts abt cole n rusty being 'crusaders' who r 'saving the city of angels' by 'sentencing degenerates (peep the nazi terminology) 2 painful deaths' n that's all that matters bcuz it gives the force the image that it's addressing Them, whoever they r, instead of being an enforcer of systemic oppression. even the 'veteran detective' on the homicide desk endorses DV!

n rn i've gotten like two cutscenes of cole frequenting the jazz club 2 specifically watch elsa (n the implication is that he goes there rlly often 2 b buddy-buddy w/ the doormen) but everytime he goes there he just looks deeply awkward n like he's enduring being in that place. zero sexual tension. zero anything. not even a drink on the table or a cigarette. he's nothing. he's as smooth as a ken doll 2 me. i literally don't know how this is gonna work

but yeah honestly to ME the affair is non-sexual, not because I need to justify Cole's actions but because he just is so sexless. However a married man going off to the place of a jazz singer (who has had multiple 'partners') is still. Not acceptable for the time I guess?

n also i think he def has had his suspicions on it being a serial killer since the golden butterfly (esp bcuz the two 'culprits' in it were honestly embarrassing in how flimsy the accusations were, n the 'correct' answer was the one who would look better 4 the media) but... well when he voices that he just gets shut down every single time bcuz it's better 4 the lapd 2 seem like they're just arresting awfullll ppl left n right so he might as well act like none of the cases r related. even when he does that he says "yeah i think x could've done it"
