Day 6: Pumpkin Patch

Charles pulled the needle through one last time, gave the knot a few tugs for good measure, and bit the threat off with his teeth before humming in appreciation. "There we are," he sing-songed, appraising his handiwork. "Looking good, innit?"
He slid his arms back into his coat sleeves and smoothed down his lapel with satisfaction before Edwin stepped closer, popped the collar for him, and peeled his left lapel from his chest to inspect the small, fabric pumpkin now sewn into the interior.
"Yes, very good, Charles." He patted his friend's chest. "Is is time we tested it?"
Charles's smile widened in excitement as he nodded, shooing Edwin back in case the enchantment went sideways.
Edwin did as he was told, produced his notebook, and gestured for Charles to begin, excitement twinkling in his eyes. They both knew how he adored Charles's disguises.
Charles thumped his chest once, right over his heart, and a shimmer of magic poofed! out around him in a sparking haze. As Charles waved off the cloud, Edwin sucked in a breath as he beheld a bulbous shape emerging from obscurity.
A whole jack-o-lantern had materialized around Charles's head, complete with triangle eyes, a Cheshire grin, and a candle flame flickering bright at it's center. Edwin smiled so big, it surely rivaled the pumpkin's.
"Marvelous work, Charles," he exclaimed.
Charles laughed loud, spun around to see the illusion in the mirror, and pumped his fist in the air in triumph. "Brills! Headless horseman, here we come!"

Summary: Edwin has been haunting Charles' killers every year around the anniversary. But his year was different. Special. He finally had someone else who loved Charles enough to join him on his crusade. He vowed in that attic all those years ago that he wouldn’t hurt Charles, and he intended to make sure no one ever would again. And he knew Crystal would be more than happy to help him fulfill that promise.

Payneland Pumpkin Fest Day 4: Payneland Haunting 👻
“Bustin’ makes me feel good 🎶” feat. Charles as Ghostbuster and Edwin as Houdini, both doing their parts to get rid of or denounce ghosts in their respective eras. (Thank you to @regretsofaghost and @honorarypines for all your moral support this week and always!)
The Case of the Duelling Ideologies. When an unsuspecting tourist placed a Labubu on the grave of Karl Marx, the boys ventured to Highgate Cemetery to investigate the odd disturbance.
Edwin gasped as three cards were drawn in quick succession. The fortune teller’s meaningful glance to them as she laid them out caught Charles’s attention. He’d asked for the reading on a whim when they’d passed the tent at the night market, and he hadn’t expected Edwin to indulge him, but here they were.
In the past was The Tower, which spoke of a shattering of old ways—of change, upheaval and crisis.
In the present was The Lovers. Charles felt the illusion of his face warming into a blush, and a glance over to Edwin found his partner’s cheeks dusted with the same brilliant pink. Neither of them had forgotten Edwin’s confession in the ascent up from Hell.
“Mate…” Charles hated how his voice caught in his throat.
In the future—their future—was The World: celebration, accomplishment, and in love the deepening of their relationship.
A sense of giddiness arose within a Charles’s spectral gut. Edwin Payne was in love with him still, and he was in love with Edwin Payne, even if he hadn’t yet been brave enough to speak that knowledge into words.
