Equivalent Exchange || Pax & Emery
Emery couldn't help the small smirk that stretched over her lips when the boy answered with a snarky response. She merely crossed her arms and cocked her head to the side when he asked for her help, letting herself contemplate on helping or not. She was only teasing though and her questioning look faded as she nodded. “Yeah.” She answered and made her way towards him. She climbed up near him without a problem, untangling the ropes. “You don't need these.” Emery explained and she slowly untied them, knowing it would drop Pax. He was above a platform though, he'd be fine.
When she heard the satisfying thump of Pax hitting the wooden platform she giggled a little, a smile on her face for once. “You alright?” She asked with an amused tone, now being able to help the boy untangle himself from the ropes.
Pax watched the tiny red head cock her head to the side and squint up at him. His eyes set on her with furious focus almost as if mentally willing her to help untangle him or walk away and never speak of the situation again. When she slid up the rock with no problem Pax had felt a small unusual pang of jealousy in his chest. She dangled high in the air with no rope or safety net and no fear in her eyes, instantly placing her in the "equals" category in Pax's mind. Which was a rare occurrence in his life for females. They usually didn't care much for him anyhow as he casually behaved like they were only good for one thing.
"Only problem I have with not having ropes is immediate death. Something you don't seem to grasp. Ever looked down before? That shit can't be fought off. You let go and that's it. You're splattered in the dirt. People are easy to fight. People I can deal with." He finished confidently. It wasn't necessarily something to be proud of but it was something that reminded him he wasn't weak in the moment. The whole time he was speaking she was cutting him down and when his mouth finally closed that's when his body slammed into the platform below him. He stood up and shook off the excess rope.
"Obviously." He grunted. Begrudgingly he added a thanks to her and asked how she learned to climb.
