New Locations || Hazel & Nixon
Nixon grinned when Hazel agreed to learn, it was exciting for him to share his music with someone. Nixon took a step closer, probably to eagerly so he had to consciously make an effort to calm himself down. He handed her the violin, “You put it up on your shoulder like this, and rest your chin on it.” He waited for her to do that before he came up and hesitantly moved her wrist and fingers into a correct position. “Yes, like that.” Nixon scurried over to the other side of her and showed her how to hold the bow, “I know it feels awkward, but the pinky has to be all the way over here.” He said and smiled when she was holding everything correctly. He took a step back, looking over her posture and nodded once he was satisfied. “Alright, now lift the bow and run them over this string here.” Nixon said, making sure to help her get the feel of where the bow touches the string and how her entire arm moves not just her wrist. “That’s an A.”
Hazel narrowed her eyes in concentration and followed Nixon's instruction. The instrument felt incredibly awkward, pushing on her collarbone and prodding into her neck. The hand position reminded her of grabbing on to someone's arm, about to twist it out of their socket. Her eyebrows became a little less knitted and her lips a little less pursed.
The grip on the long stick was even more unsettling. It was a little bit like when you dig your nails into someone's skin or claw their face but this position was bound - definitely nowhere near as much fun. Snapping out of the tiny daze, Hazel moved her arm as Nixon instructed and pulled the stick down. The sound was completely different from what she had heard the boy play. His was clear and warm - beautiful, really - and the Rag Doll's, in comparison, was squeaky and crunchy. The girl's eyes flashed, her lips pursing tightly into a straight line. Maybe that was a fluke - it was her first time after all. She tried to replicate the movement again but the sound was only marginally better. Hazel could hear her father's voice in her head, demanding perfection. "Okay... so what's the next note?"
